What to use in cleaning the vert top. (inside and out)

I don't want to ruin the inside material especially. Any suggestions appreciated.

Regards,
Gavin

i know this is a 3 year old topic but i wanted to revive it and see what people are using to clean their tops. When my car was broken into and the top was sliced i used tape the first night to seal it up...but now there is tape residue left. I've washed the car about 5 or 6 times since then and it hasn't even really faded. Any tips on a harsh cleaner that won't mess up my top?

I use this stuff called Sun-of-gun, it's like Armerol but not alcohol based so it doesn't dry out.

Wow, the poor guy has to wait 3 years for a reply...

I use Mothers Convertible Top Cleaner on the outside, but I've never touched the inside.

There is a product that I've used on other things (not my convertible top) called "Goo Gone". I bought it at Lowe's (a competitor to Home Depot). It does remove tape and glue residue. If you want to try it, just do a very small area, first, to see if there are any unwanted side effects.

Option B is to talk to the guys at your local auto upholstery shop. They have almost certainly dealt with this at some time.

goo gone is the shizittt, don't know about converitlbe tops though. I bought this $15.00 bottle of maguires vinyl cleaner, and a bottle of their restoer. I first cleaned my top with it, then use the other bottle to condition it, made it alot shiner for about a 1month. Don't know if it'll get your tape goo of though..

Use any of the orange acid based cleaners, they generally don't harm any surfaces. Removes glue from paint quicker better than wd-40. They longer you leave it on the better it breaks up the glue, turns it into mush.

As always test a small spot first.
