What is this? Under the Lower Intake Manifold...

Hey guys. I'm glad to see that the site is back up.

After finding that my pulsation Dampner had a small leak, I've removed the UIM and LIM and found this little black electrical plug thats NOT plugged into anything. Its coming out of the same part of the wiring harness as the primary fuel injector plugs.

Does anyone know what it is?

Other than replacing all of the vacuum lines, fuel lines and having the fuel injectors cleaned, is there anything else I should do while its taken apart?

Also, while replacing a few of the vacuum lines just above the drivers side of the engine I broke what appears to be some kind of check valve. Its white and green and looks like a little float you would use for fishing(top part of 2nd picture)). Any idea where I can get one and what its function is?

That connector could be for a fan thermoswitch...some cars came with a booster fan for the AC condenser, triggered by a switch on the back of the water pump housing or the upper rad hose neck.

The check valve is just that, a one way vacuum check valve.
Millions of em in junkyards or any chain auto parts store.

Thanks, I wasnt sure if there was anything special about the check valve that would require me to get it from Mazda.

It is. If the fan's not fitted neither is the switch, and the connector is unused.

I thought so but his connector looks different than mine ('91 NA).

Mine is also a '91 N/A. I just dont want to put it back together if it needs to be plugged in somewhere, however, there is nothing in its vicinity that it would appear to plug in to. I guess I wont worry about it. Just waiting for my fuel injectors from WitchHunter.

Thanks for your help!

Another question...

I was thinking I should go ahead and replace the coolant lines that run in and out of the BAC. Since they have several bends in them, do I need to order the replacement parts from Mazda or can I use generic straight coolant lines from the parts store?

Like I said, no fan = no switch = unused connector.

The proper pre-moulded coolant hoses will sit much nicer and look better. Regular hose can't be bend in sharp curves like the stock hoses have without kinking, so you will need to use longer hoses to prevent that. It's up to you whether it's worth paying the extra...
