Noticed these as I was bypassing my leaky ABS pump, and I can't seem to find anything close on the rat's nest diagram to give me an idea of what they might be. Its a '89 TII will full emissions.

Traced the left one, turns out it goes round to the back of the motor and is capped off at the other end. The right one comes out of the UIM. According to the vacuum diagram, the UIM one looks like its supposed to feed the Air Bypass Valve, but mine is currently fed from the same line as the boost sensor.

Both seems to be extraneous.

Its part of the sub zero start system? Seems odd, the rest of the system was hooked up (now disabled and partially removed, need to get at the parts under the intake manifolds).

I fail to see how thats going to do anything. I'm attempting to understand the vacuum system and find any flaws so that I don't need to worry about the emissions test.

From the look of it, it could possibly be the Sub zero start or the AWS system stuff.

All of the Bolded items/lines are emissions stuff on an S5 that you can delete:

Need to pass emissions in Colorado, so I won't be deleting anything, but AWS makes a bit more sense to me. I'll have to poke around a bit more. Thanks

emissions on an older 90's vehicle? ouch that sucks man. the cut off here is 1995 and older you dont have to test.

If you have a leaky ABS pump, why not just remove it instead of patching? Is that the mazdatrix T-block? I understand if it was a cost savings fix, but if you ever want to remove that unsightly thing converting to non-ABS is not very difficult at all.

Here is my writeup I made when my pump was leaking and in need of removal.

korndog517: Its been a little bit since I've looked at this, but basically in Colorado emissions is done by county (not state wide like CA), but there is only one major population center (Colorado Springs) which does not have emissions testing. Colorado tests every car made since '68, unless you get a collector's plate. Collector's plates used to be for anything 25 years and older. Now the state granted monopoly wanted to get rid of collector's plates so that they would get more money doing emissions (you have to pay $15 per car, every other year to get a test). There was a huge debate about it around 2002, and the law was changed so that collector's plates are only available for '79 and older cars. So yeah, I'm pretty much stuck with emissions for good.

No_love_for_pistons: That is the maxdatrix ABS bypass T-block. I might end up putting ABS back on the car. Gonna see if the pump is reparable first.

verrt: I haven't tried (I have the MAF disconnected to get at the windshield washer reservoir right now), but since the one on the right looks like it comes out of the UIM, I imagine it would. The pipe on the left looks like its capped off on both sides (no pic for the other side), so I imagine it won't unless has a hidden T junction I haven't found.

isn't the one under the BAC valve just a test port?

The nipple under the BAC should feed the stock blow off valve. The lower one isn't on my s4, so I can't help you.

Why are people saying sub-zero assist? This is a series 5!!
The above post is correct. The one by the BAC goes to the BOV. The boost sensor connects into the ACV. But if it's teed into the BOV line, that obviously still works.

That other one... **** if I know. Is that a small tee coming off the line and that little piece is capped? That line looks like it goes to the blue solenoid, all the way on the other side of the engine.

Maybe because sub zero assist was recalled in 1990 and this is an '89?

I guess I need to get more pics this weekend

^I stand corrected! I thought sub-zero start assist was a dopey/early S4 thing.

And another photo dump

First one shows how my stock boost sensor and bov are "wired" into the vacuum system.

Next two are the same pic, just some annotation on the last one to illustrate what is hard to see in the pic. The yellow is the sub-zero start assist line (currently capped off at where the tank would be) and the light green shows the mysterious vacuum line. Its capped off at both ends
