Question What is there to do now?

Hey everyone,
alright I just got my rx-7 about a few weeks ago. I have done a 60k to it as well as replaced the shifter with a shortshifter. Now where should I go? Exhuast? Engine? Suspension? I just need a little help. I know what I want to do with my car. I just need help in choosing what is the best exhuast, what swap should I throw into my 87` Rx-7 Coupe/Sport none turbo. Anyone please give me a little advise at rx-7 modified owners!

Do ALL the maintenance first: change out flush all the fluids (including brake fluid)
What's original to the car still?
what do you want to do with the car, what are aspirations etc..?
Drive it for several months to learn the car before you start changing things.
whats a 60K?

I think niburu's above post has some good advice. There are 4 different paths: Road Race, Drag Race, Drift, and Show, as well as how streetable you want the car to remain. You can combine some of these goals, but the more you compromise, the less effective the car will be at the given tasks. Also, you need to decide how much time and money you want to spend on the car, and whether you want to keep it non-turbo. The exhaust, engine, suspension, and other choices will depend on your answers to the above questions.

j/k, I think he means the 60,000 mile maintenance items were performed.

KofC does you're FC really only have around 60K miles on it? or are you on your second at like 120Kmiles?

Anyway what I'd replace first is the radiator if it's original, get an all metal dual core replacement the oem rad has a plastic top and bottom that are prone to splitting - ask me how I know.

and like cb07 says suspension is probably the best upgrade you can do on your FC, BUT if you think you need to go turbo save your money up for a TII, it'll be cheaper in the long run (unless you have a garage full of all the tools you need and have the knowledge and skill to d0 it all - a man gots know his limits)

+1 ONLY if you got your car cornerweighed otherwise it's the best way to waste money.

One of the good practices when buying a new FC, is to do the 60k mile tuneup. Even if it's only been 500 miles from doing it, the seller says, you can't trust them sometimes, they will say anything to sell a car. Better to be safe than sorry with your baby.

That's a show/drift setup that would not be suitable for road racing. Conversely, a Bilstein coil-over setup would be great for road racing but all of the show car people and drifters would think it was ugly and/or inferior. That is why it is important to decide on the use of the car before spending hundreds or thousands of dollars.

I do agree that suspension is a good place to put your money, especially in a non-turbo car. Just remember to replace your nasty 16-21 year old bushings at the same time, as you don't want your expensive new suspension broken or worn prematurely.

Most of the people on this forum buy coil-overs for looks. I think it is a waste of money to cornerweight the car if not actually racing.

Hot rodding has historically included aesthetic modifications with minor or no performance value, and I see nothing wrong with this. Why spend thousands of dollars for a nice paint job, glass etching, chrome or carbon fiber parts, or other non-functional items? Why use a nice-sounding exhaust system or a fancy anodized suspension system when better race parts are available? It's fun, that's why. Also, not everybody wants to spend top dollar for the best stuff, or install the harshest race items available if they are quite happy with more mild items. With respect to suspension, just look at how many people on this forum have suspension from TEIN, Tanabe, Stance, and K-Sport vs. the actual race stuff from Koni, Bilstein, JRZ, and Penske.

if its just for street driving and occasional track thrash id go: full exhaust, suspension, new bushes, enclosed pod filter, new clutch, and grippier tyres. but remember... everything you do to the car will change how it feels, so get used to the car before you go ape $hit at the street/ track

last thing you would want is the 7 wrapped around a tree...
