What are the symtoms of a bad shock/strut?

Out of curiosity.. how can you tell if say only one of your shocks/struts go bad? Is there an easy test?

If it leaks its bad. If you push down on the car by the wheel, or where ever the shock is, and the car goes down and right back up its good. If it goes up and down like a pogo stick you may want to concider replacing it.

check the shock itself for oil leaking around the shaft. Or if your car constanly bottoms out ie when you hit a bump you hear a loud thump. Either way if you shocks or strust are more than 5 years old its a good i dea to get new ones anyway. You'll like the handling and ride a whole lot better with the new ones in.

What is you have the AAS? Do you have to use some special shocks? My car has 135K and I am hoping I'm not in for some $200 shocks or somthing....

you could just get new stockes or look into companies like kyg upgrades stock style systems arent as expensive as coilover setups. But im not too familar with costs just do some web searching. A good site for stock parts is www.parts.com

Thanks I have AGX shocks on there now and the drivers side one looks like it might be leaking.. Yesterday when I was driving it felt like the front kept bouncing up and down at high speed so it sounds like it's bad..

When it rains man sheesh.. My windshield just broke.. my shocks are bad.. my clutch needs to be replaced and the tranny rebuilt.. oh yeah and I was fired last month so I don't have any money.. lol
