what swaps for my car

Ok i got a 88 non turbo rx-7 today. i got it dirt cheap. the car looks great almost like new. the exhaust manifold gets red hot so i think i will swap the engine with a turbo engine. i have been looking on some sites and ebay. i see alot of swaps for my car. what is the easiest swap for my car. my car is a s4 i think. IS it easy to put in a s5 engine or should i stick with a s4 engine. i want something that is a direct boltin i guess that is what i am saying. also what all is needed to do a swap maybe some of you can give me some good links and write ups.

First, read the FAQs at the top of the 2nd gen tech section. It will answer most of you questions. Next, search. If you still can't find anything, you can start a new thread.

To answer your question (which is in the FAQ) you can swap an s5 engine into an s4 car, but it is a decent bit of work, not completely bolt in. If you just want the block (even though there are no real gains) you can swap on the s4 front cover, and everything else from an s4 bolts on. If you want the s5 intake to work, it wiring up either solenoids or an air pump to activate the aux ports and VDI.

Here is how to swap an s5 into an s4: http://rotaryresurrection.com/2ndgen...o_s4_swap.html

BTW... if your manifold is getting red hot it's possible your timing is retarded or one of your cats is clogged

the guys says his manifold is getting red hot so he thinks he will swap the motor- which aint cheap or easy compared to possibly fixing the problem.

I think it was relevant to the thread

Ummmm, I guess what I am saying is that he doesn't have to do a swap if all he is worried about is that his manifold is getting red hot... seems rather relevant

im in the middle of a swap myself, the best thing you can do is find a entire car, then you will have every piece required and not have to deal with trying to find it all from seperate people.

You need more then just the motor and harness to work, if you do a search you will find what else is needed.
Some people do a full swap, and some people do a engine only swap, some run stand alone computers and front mount intercoolers, there are many ways to go about it.

If i was you i will do a 13B RE cosmo swap, its not a bolt on swap, you will need more money than your regular T2 swap but in my personal opinion its kinda nicer and a little diferent cause this days everybody drive a T2 swapped 7

Well for that price its not that bad(you can get them cheaper)and it looks like a complete swap,if you are going to get this motor ask for some comp numbers and try to find out for how long this engine sat at the shop, junkyard or whatever,If you get it everything its almost plug and play cause its the same series motor, use your stock harness and if you are keeping the stock rear end you need a custom driveshaft

One of the ways not to have to get all t2 drivetrain is to use your NA rotors inside the engine. If they are S4 NA rotors, your still lower comp than S5 turbo rotors, just a little more than S4 turbo so the spool up and lower end power will be slightly increased. The down fall to this method is you will be using a supposedly weaker tranny, smaller flywheel area, and smaller axels. The only reason I bring this up is because if your buying a J-spec motor, you want to rebuild it anyway. Compression scores don't mean crap if you don't know history of the cars coolant system, or if there is infact a messed up water jacket or blown coolant seal. Don't wanna get a fancy new motor in, just to have to take it back out!
