What speakers fit in the doors

Hey guys I got my 89 GTU with an aftermaket headunit and I'm going to be putting some better speakers in the doors but wanted to know what fit. I know clearence is kind of tight and I'de like to buy speakers Once.

Looking for something that bolts in place easily with little modification and sounds pretty good.

Thanks guys

if you have your old speakers
pop off the black plastic spacer
the space in the center of it is PERFECT for 5 1/4's
I just put some Polk 5 1/4 components in my doors, they fit perfectly.
drilled through my sailpanels (with them off the car of course) and mounted my tweeters via a raised bucket mount.

so answer : 5 1/4 if you have the spacers
if not, you're drilling new holes

What do you guys think. The car is stripped with straight pipes so its a race car. Just looking for something basic. I just hope these little speakers actually have "some" bass.

Headunit is a pioneer DEH-2300
Looks pretty old school

I've always had good experiences with Infinity products.
as far as bass goes, good luck man,
maybe the coupes are different but once I'm up to speed I have to crank my stuff up kinda high to get anything really reproduced.

If your down for drilling new holes, they will fit 6 1/2.

I'm ok with just drilling some new holes maybe creating some spacers. I'm deff pretty handy to say the least. I am sure less 6 1/2 in speakers fit in the doors than 5 1/4s

actually he's right,
pretty much any 6 1/2 will fit in the door cut out, it's just you have to drill directly into the sheet metal, I used 5 1/4's because I had a set already and those spacers were already on my factory speakers.

yea 6 1/2's will fit, just be careful of the height of the speakers. some of them need deep mounting surfaces. on my 6 1/2's i needed to trim the door panels slightly.
