What size tires do I need?

I am thinking of getting a new set of rims.
Size are 17x7 with a 40 offset
I need to know what tires I can run with out them rubbing.

Thanks in advance

A very common question. The answer is it depends. The most common answer would be 225s in the front, and something like 245 or 255 in the back. It depends on your profile of tire too. Some people have managed to sqeeze in bigger tires. I think a lot of it depends on how much suspension travel your car sees. I ruined a set of tires 225/55/16 with offcourse excursions at the track. I saw the full suspension travel. I think even stock tires may have been ruined that day. There's a guy running 245s up front and 275s out back, but I think his car sees only nice conditions.
