What size tires?

I was looking at some rims that are 17,7.5 and was wondering what size tires I can fit on the back. I want some xxx/40/17 and want wider in the back. Thanks alot.

225 is about the widest you can go safely on a 7.5" wide rim.

i have 215/45's all around...works great. maybe with 225's all around it might handle a tad better, but it will be VERY close in the front with just the 40mm offset.

i wouldn't go with 205/40's or 215/40's...the sidewall will be very thin and the ride will be even more harsh...and if the car isn't lowered those sidewalls will look awfully thin IMO. but if you're slammin' the car go for it

Did they even have radial tires in 73? Wasn't it like a 8.00x15 or something?

Question 16 inch rims..........

Since thats stock for T2's, looking for tried and true experience on different tire sizes wider than stock.

I run 225/50/16 on my car, since the diameter is nearly identical. I'm thinking of going up to a 245 in the rear when I put the FD rims on. I'm breaking loose in 3rd gear

Yeah, and when was the last time I've been out-cornered by a 1973 Mustang with that set-up.&nbsp I'm not making the claims, check out any competent tire shop that has the safety spec poster (or ask their tire techs) with the recommended tire and rim sizes.&nbsp Sure, you can stuff a 255 wide tire on a 7" rim, but it's not safe or recommended.&nbsp There's a difference between what can be done and what shouldn't be done...

And I used to have 245's on the factory 15x6 wheels on my T-bird.

Aspect ratio makes a BIG difference. For one thing, tires of a given section width are typically a little wider than tall aspect ratio tires, because of the way they're measured and because of engineering tolerances. For another thing, well, obviously a taller aspect ratio tire has more sidewall to give. I assume you have 235/60's on your 'Stang - a sweet combo IMO 245/60-15's were a little too small for my 'bird, but that and the bagel effect allowed me to just crank pressures up to 44/40 and reap huge grip and even tire wear.

- PJ (oh yeah, and I had almost 3 degrees of neg. camber...)
