what size is the little nut on the alternator?

oh man, it erased my post. damn.

well, its the 8mm socket size one that holds the wire on. has the little rubber cap over the end. oh, and this is for S4 alternator. I lost the one off mine, and I don't want to remove the alternator and take it to the store to find the right one.

Well, little nuts cost... little. You can bet it's metric, just try to measure the diameter of the stud in millimeters, then go buy all the m<instert number> nuts that are close to that size. Their should only be a couple pitch variations at that size.

What you need is a box with hundreds of assorted nuts and bolts you've collected from many years of tinkering with cars. You rumage though this box until you either find a nut that fits the alternator post or you find a bolt with the same thread, which you take to a hardware store to get a nut that matches it.

Never throw out old nuts and bolts...

oh, I've got TONS of extra bolts and nuts. but I can't find any that small. well, I guess I'll just go buy buy some metric nuts
