What Should I Do With My 7?

i was thinking today and i said to myself what should i do with my 7 i got it about 2 weeks ago or less and im just kinda ashamed on the power so i dont know weather to stay with my 7 or go back to my 85 Montecarlo ss it has some upgrades producing about 300 hp it just has a bad tranny but i have a spare in the back and if i went with my monte i would customize a turbo setup in it so what do you guys think any suggestions would help....

If you're not into the car, sell it to someone who is...You'll never make huge power out of an NA and have it remain streetable (however, definitions of what is "streetable" can vary...).

I'm glad you asked! Please SELL it 'like yesterday' before you blown it and yourself to pieces! That's the conclusion based on various post where you're freaking out over something all the time, including today's ATF venture.

If your not happy with the power your making, then sell it. NAs take a lot of time and money to make them fast, IMO. Sure things are gonna break, its a ~15 year old car (some 18 year old)! But how good of a daily driver is a big *** V8? How bout gas mileage? Does the SS get >20MPG? Sure you can light up the street with the SS but can you powerbrake the SS (for lack of a better word, but I mean like pull the ebrake when going around a corner)? Its all **** to think about man, the import vs domestic war has gone on for a while. If I were you I would sell both the SS and the FC and buy a nice TurboII and have some real fun !

None taken! You asked in an open forum and will get different opinions. Whether you take it or not is 'no skin off my back'. Oh, and keep the vulgar language to yourself.. doesn't sound nice

make your own mind up. You come on the RX7 club asking if you should sell it? come on man, decide for yourself.

I love my NA, wouldn't sell it for anything(except a tII), but thats besides the point, what do YOU want to do with the car?

thats funny cuz I'd of thought you would test drive a car before you get it. But really, I've driven montes before and yea you can get some good torgue out of them, but you get in your monte and I'll take a 7 with half the power and we'll take it to some backroad's and then you can relize the potental in it. these are two different types of rides. one is sport and the other is for cruising. dollor for dollor I'd be in the 7 .thats my thought Corbit.

If you are after power, than go with the Monte Carlo. The numbers you mention make sense to suggest this as the NA RX-7 will not give you those realistic numbers unless you go ***** out. Should you decide to scrap the Idea of keeping It, besure to give It up to someone who will take It and keep It on the road.

I just witnessed ur last post about the hoods that guy is making.. basically requesting him to make a hood so u can "see" what it looks like.. u know what ur not the only one who is hard up for cash. sell your 7 and put the money into one car. Or do what im doing spend ur money on important stuff .. like getting everything working correctly before u worry about a hood with big *** scoops on it.. everyday ur incoherient posts get more and more confusing and annoying. *end flame here* lol sorry but god d@#$ i can only read crap like this so long

Alright I gotta step in on this one.........here it comes the answer thats going to **** of 100's of ignorant people.....how bout a v8 swap!!! lmfao.....why? 1. Reliabity 2. Torque (torque wins races Horsepower sells cars) 3. Upgrades are dirt cheap 4. Anybody can work on them...for cheap...rotary tech's arent exactly cheap =) oh and to you guys saying "does your v8 get 20Mpg?" I would hope it does better than that, most v8 Lt1/Ls1 rx7's I know of get 25+ Mpg....so all you ignorant rotary people out there wake up, rotary reliablity has been a problem for years and still is.....its been proven time and time again you cant build a streetable high HP rotary.....how many 9-10 second rotaries do you know of that are daily drivers, get 25-30mpg, streetable, and dont need a rebuild after every few runs....I didnt even mention the 8 second bracket....here's a link for yah which I know you've seen before.....www.lingenfelter.com check it out...oh and one more thing =P, I just want all of you rotary guys to know me and a few friends are picking up 3 possible 4 Rx7's 2 being FC's 2 being FD's and are going to "molest them" and drop some real power into them =) Wake Up Seriously

Dude, this the wrong forum to ellict your anti-rotary propaganda. Seriously. Although your view point holds some merit, It doesn't have any particular relavance to this thread either.

I feel your pain (a little bit). I came from a short but sweet history of Monte Carlos into my 1990 GXL. Luckily for me, the pattern was such:
Monte Carlo SS -> Monte Carlo granny model (4.3L and no suspension to speak of) -> Mazda RX-7.
So the switch from my granny car to the seven is kindof like getting my SS back in terms of handling and acceleration (flame retardent: I'm not saying an SS drives the same as a GXL [or this thread wouldn't even exist] but they're both "sports cars")

Tweak: The montes are sweet cars man, especially the SS. Sounds like you've already put some care into it and are happy with the results, so I vote you return to one of the best cars Chevy ever made.
Personally, I'm very excited to be driving my first jap car ever and plan to run the seven for as long as I can.

Long post I know, but I couldn't keep from chiming in on the Monte Carlo / RX-7 debate. peace.

An NA rx-7 is a race car in street trim (not drag race - road race). Take some hard corners a few times and watch yourself get a feel for the car's handling, then do the same stretch of twisty road in a Monte Carlo, and you will feel the difference.

Exactly. If you want drag, get a V8. I have a 300+hp 400+torque Camaro sitting in my garage I'll sell ya. I'm so much more in love with the handling/driving on my Turbo II.

My freinds and I used to always take out his 89 Firebird Formula to go driving (drifiting attempts and mountain courses). I thought that thing was freaking amazing (it has an "upgraded" suspension stock). Then, I got my RX7 TII and let me say HOLY FREAKING COW! We went for a drive last night, me in my rex and him in his bird. Off the line in a drag race, we were pretty dang even (his low-end was killing me, and I kept missing third . I'll get used to this shifter yet!).

But, as soon as we hit the curves, there was no contest. I would be through a curve and in full acceleration mode MUCH faster than he was. I could stick through corners that he was having trouble with without even trying (and my rex has snow tires on it right now!). At one point, I hit over 100mph coming down the mountain, and the car felt absolutely ROCK FREAKING SOLID. I would have NEVER felt that comfortable in the Formula.

So, if you want a drag race car, give the RX7 to someone who will appreciate and go ***** out on your Monte. If you want an all around performer, stick with the RX7, and definately look for a Turbo II engine

Sorry for the long post!

Very nice post MountainTurbo! Man that really sums up the domestic vs RX7 war ! But domestics just aren't as fun to drive IMO. My first car was a 1975 (I think '75 might have been 73 - **** I should remember it was only like 2 years ago ) chevy caprice, a real ******* beater, maybe it was nice in its day but mine was a piece of **** haha i really didnt know much about it at all (I paid like $500 off some old lady and pushed it to my buddy's dads shop and he got it running for $200), but I could light my tires up easily at a stoplight . Anyway after it finally kicked the bucket (200K miles ) I gave it to some kid and bought a honda (slow as hell) then like a year later I finally got a 87 GXL that ran OK, but it was so damn fun to drive (not much faster then my civic tho)! I remember the first week I bought it I must have gone through 2 tanks of gas just driving all over the place! And the sound of the rotary was just so cool. I fell in love! It was so much better then my caprice could ever have been, american muscle just isn't FUN like my 7 was! Then I wrecked it (well wasn't my fault somebody ran a red going like 50MPH and hit the front of my car - I wasn't hurt but the car was), and now I drive my beater 86 benz! The benz is the least fun to drive for sure . OK sorry for the history lesson but I've been to both worlds and the 7 is a lot more fun! Trust me man HP/TQ numbers aren't everything, fun is a factor too!
