I have a 1987 mazda rx7 base model pretty much no air no power steering no power at all its a 5 speed. the body on its beat the fenders all messed up i have the door off and thers a hole in the back the the mazda letters and the underneith is all rusty so im looking to buy a body with a blown motor and have them changed. can i buy a gxl model and have my base model stuck in or should i stick to the base model and does it matter if its automatic. thanks

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
Youll want to find an 86-8 non turbo, 5sp car, trim level does not matter. IF you find a gxl, you can use all those acessories, just attatch them to your engine. Leave the a/c hooked tot eh car when you remove the engine. You can disconnect the PS pump and refill it later. IT is very straightforward.
IF you get an automatic car the chassis transmission mounts are different, and the wiring is way different. It can be done, but its a headache a first-timer doesnt need.

if your engine and drivetrain is good, you can swap them into a better shape FC with blown engine, etc., or get a running one with a good, body and have spare parts.
If you can live without power acc. get a base model (less problems=no electrical gremlins)
