6-port problems

I have a 1990 N/A with many things done to it including a header and cat back exhaust. I have T'ed into the main hose from the air pump and put a three way ball valve with one side of the valve dumping off out side the car. But I don't know exactly where to put the other side of the valve to open the actuators. I have seen examples where it looks like it goes into the split air pipe on the cat. But I've tried that and it didn't work. I've also tried to connect it to where the split air pipe is attached to the engine, it also failed. I would like to know exactly where to put the hose that is pushing air from the air pump to open the actuators.
