Do all RX's with a security system have power door locks? My AE will lock and unlock both doors from the drivers side ... Inside or out of the car.

Nope. Actually very very few FC's have power locks (well actually slave locks, since in most cases the drivers door is just a switch and not a lock motor).

well, mine makes a "beep" sound when i lock my doors and the light lighs up saying it's armed when the door is locked. It adds to the many other buzzer alarms that go off in RX-7's

I have come to find out though, if you have a turbo timer, the alarm will not actually "arm" until the turbo timer cuts off. At least mine dosn't. So i guess someone could get into the car without making the alarm go off...but only for a minute or two

Talking about factory alarms....

I can't get my alarm to arm in my '91 Vert. The last thing still in need of fixing. My guess is either the trunk or hood trigger is not seeing ground, thus preventing arming when I lock both doors. However, the security light lights up when I turn the key in the trunk lock or either door lock. So, I know the factory alarm is "seeing" those triggers.

By the way, the factory alarm is incorporated in the big black CPU behind the drivers side kick panel. I'm pretty sure the alarm isn't defective as I swapped in a CPU from a different '91 Vert, no change.

Icemark, if you have any thoughts of other reasons it won't arm, let me know.

My project this weekend. I'll report back on what I found.

yeah actually I would be checking the hood switch. Does the security light flash once when you pop the hood???

I figured it was a common glitch I have it on my list to search for a fix. (other issues first) .. so I guess this is not a common issue? mine seems to have a mind of its own, infact it went off one nite while I was fukin sleeping and it was in a locked garage (Didn't really relize I had armed the alarm, its habbit to lock from the inside and hold the handle, thats how I lock my N/A) Needless to say I was pissed! I wanted to shoot a neighbor for having there car alarm go off in the middle of the nite .. come to find out its my AE in the locked garage ... I figured it was hungy or somthing .. so I sat in it and had a smoke with her. She didn't act up the rest of the nite.
When the manual door locks (the push down/up switch on the door) get old and weak, the car can be sitting when a wind gust/a passing tap on the body or anything else can cause the switch to "fall" and set the alarm. After this happens, the alarm can go off if there is another gust, or tap that breaks the connection (the door lock switch has moved up a little - breaking contact).

Also, there could be a vibration/shock sensor mounted under the console (in the area of the alarm set light) this is a dealer/owner installed option available to all cars. I purchased one for my 88C.

If the shock sensor is set to sensitive, and the lock has been set - on purpose or by accident - then any loud noise, wind, or other vibration can also set off the alarm.

Chances are its disconnected from the CPU, Mine was for like 4 months... till I recently put it on since I finally got a car stereo.

I still have the fatory alarm paper for my 88 Gxl, which says that all doors and hatch must be locked, and the final door to be closed must not be locked with the key.
Holding the handle up does nothing to arm the one in my car. Just my 2 cent's

But if you don't hold the handle up.. the door unlocks.

I have it in my vert but don't use it as the sequence required to set it (lock doors & close) is exactly opposite of my aftermarket alarm's (close doors & lock)

I would then have to disarm it with the key, and I prefer the remote on the aftermarket alarm with actuators which would trigger the factory alarm. Also, driver's door key cylinder is long gone.

Pure madness.
