for drift you need more suspension work than motor work. if you do upgrade turbo, don't get a huge turbo for huge power, cuz you get huge lag as well. get a smallish turbo for quick spool, torque on demand is where it's at.

+1 on coilovers

w/ a TII, you have enough power to get sideways. Build up the suspension and steering first, learn good steering and throttle control and then increase the power. I've got a bad motor in a stock gxl and I can still drift it while keeping the revs under 4k [on blacktop and wet pavement]

if i was going to build a bare-minimum fc drift car, i'd have mid-level coilovers, stock clutch type or welded open diff, and spaced steering rack. if you are/know/can find a good welder, relocate the tie rod mounting points on the spindles. this is really good bang for buck mod.

S5's had viscous.

Oh and. If I were to build a drifting T2, with my few garage tools (no welder):

First of all, a compression test. Make sure your engine is healthy before spending any money on it, PLEASE. I hate seeing people cry about spending so much money, only to find out there engine is on the way out.

STANCE coilovers (very cheap, very nice), with solid suspension bushings, ABSOLUTELY you must eliminate the DTSS (rear steer bushings), or you will have some major snap-oversteer issues...

Pull the turbo, tear down the block, replace all gaskets, fluids, etc with all fresh, spark plugs and wires, basically a MAJOR overhaul / maintenence endeavor.

Get the turbo's wastegate ported. Theres no telling how much damage you've already done by not having this done (from your list of mods). If it's an S4, get rid of the twin scroll and port out the manifold.

Full intake, exhaust, Megasquirt, boost controller (12psi), 720cc secondary injectors, walbro fuel pump. re-wired fuel pump mod, port-matched manifolds, a healthy set of gauges, just little things that make a difference.

All of this can be done for roughly $3000-4000...yet it is very effective. You can do more suspension work, but the bushings and coilovers will have the most impact on your car as far as being able to predict exactly what it will do, and doing it square. With 12psi on the stock turbo, with a good tune, you will be making around 245-260rwhp, which is more than enough to throw it around, probably more than you'll need at this point.

I'd always reccomend starting off in an NA car..so you can actually learn to drift, and not just punch the throttle and hope..

don't you know? purposefully mispelling words is the new english. i'm not cool enough to play that game though.

at least the grammar is *mostly* there. i've seen much worse.

Why write "Thanx" when you could simply write, "Thanks"? I'll never understand...

"What is the right way to build your RX-7?"

"What is the meaning of life?"

I see some similarities here...
