What rebuild kit should i buy?

Ok so i'm doing a rebuild on a 1987 turbo II (my first) and i was going to buy a rebuild kit from attkins rotory but i whent up to a race shop around the corner today to ask about them about dyno priceing and was telling the own i planed to buy an attkins rebuild kit and he was saying that he'd heard they had a reputation for there apex seals bending and suggested i go with a mazda rebuild kit (what he uses) instead. though the shop only worlks on N/A Rx7's and miatas. A. whats everyones thoughts on the attkins thing? and B. any thoughts on a better kit?

Are you using the old housings? If so, I would use Atkins seals. If you are using new housings, I would use OEM. Both are good, but atkin's are softer. This means they break in faster, but they don't last quite as long as OEM ones. Keep in mind that OEM seals can last over 200k miles, so even if atkins seals last half that, the old housings will probably be trashed by that point.

Also, another thing to think about: I have personally seen a turbo engine with atkins seals survive a major engine detonation. The seal just bent. He tore down the engine, put in a new apex seal and used new soft seals, and he was ready to go. Had this been an OEM seal there is a good chance the seal would have broken, destroying the housing and rotor.

OEM is the best kit to go with. Add some ceramics to the mix and your good to go.

if im doing a motor this is what i use
OEM apex seals(shop around i got several sets from a guy on ebay for 200.shipped)
OEM apex seals spring(around 80 bucks)
OEM Side seals and springs(20 bucks for the springs around 100 for the seals)
third gen corner seals springs(27 bucks)
atkins solid corner seals(if motor its ported)72.00 from atkins
atkins gasket kit(110 on ebay)
oil seals(viton seals atkins)50.00
main seals(atkins sell them as a kit, really cheap)

Now its up to you if you want to replaced your oil pump chain and if you need to replaced any hard parts the cost may go up.
