There's no advantage to removing the fan shroud, period. The weight "savings" might be 1-2 LBs. Taking the junk out of your glovebox will probably save more weight. Without the shroud there is nothing to direct air through the rad/oil cooler, so the fan ends up just churning the engine bay air (for the most part).
