You removed the split air pipe. Goes away along with air pump and ACV/aux ports. You should only remove this when you do a full emissions delete, as it delivers fresh air to the cat.

Great for no emissions, bad if you have to pass.

Yes, but you can't remove JUST the air pump.
Is your 7 an S4 or S5?

AFAIK, S4s run the aux ports on exhaust backpressure so it's a little different. Honestly I do S5s. On those, your aux ports are actuated by the air pump and ACV. You will need to remove the aux port sleeves, ACV and get a block off plate before you can remove the air pump. Also, it is highly advisable to get Banzai's dual-sheave alt pulley, as that air pump belt drives the water pump too. You want two belts on that pulley so it doesn't slip, because it will.

Split air pipe does run from the air pump to the cat as a fresh air supply so it will come out with the air pump. If you're not in an emissions regulated area, take it all out, but know that this is a day long project and you will need to do it all, including grab new intake mani gaskets. DO NOT drop **** in your runners. If you drop something in there, just go ahead and pull the engine apart and rebuild it. I use duct tape over the holes to keep that from happening.

I am too brother, no worries. Search for one. I was told how to do it so I'm not 100% sure about a writeup, but I'm sure there is one on here, nopistons or something somewhere. For common questions, check out atkins rotary's, mazdatrix's, and rotary ressurection's websites. They each have a plethora of faqs and good information. Also Cam Worth at Pettit will talk to you over the phone if he has time. He's a nice bloke.

Every time that you screw with your car without first looking in the service manual to at least have a clue as to what you are doing, Baby Jesus cries.

So when you looked at the diagram of the exhaust system in the manual on page F1-5, what part was labeled #1?

just leave it open, if you block it off then the ACV and smog pump will be confused about where the air should be diverted. since you need the smog pump for the auxiliary ports this is probably the best option.

Mine too. Welded up my own expander to a flange for 3" exhaust from my factory precat section. Yikes. I need a header.

It's loud but modest. It's a single exit CorkSport turbo exhaust I had laying around. I had nothing behind the precat section before so it's definitely an upgrade. Lol that and the stock precat section and exhaust mani need to go anyway.

Mine is too. Hahah. Lots of fire, but again I have no VDI, aux ports, or ACV so it will. It doesn't drone while cruising. I'm definitely ready for a proper exhaust.

VDI is variable dynamic intake; the bottom half of the UIM on an NA. ACV is air control valve; it changes the direction of airflow from the air pump to things like your aux ports and split air, which you have since removed. I can tell you how to remove the aux ports but it's mkre work than just that and I'm not trting to clutter up your thread. You are more than welcome to shoot me a pm and we can discuss it.
