Question What is this part? T2 Part. Pic included

Can anyone tell me what the part is being pointed to in the following picture?

He's pointing to the round part with wires coming off of it.

If you could I'd be greatful.

Also if anyone has awesome tips on rebuilding after a small engine fire that'd be great too!

We've had several 7s, but this my first turbo!

Personally I'd remove it. It's one of the few things I've removed on my cars. It's dedicated to the power steering and some other insignificant function that I've forgotten about yet again.

One thing I guarantee I'd replace if you had a fire (picture sure looks that way). Replace the FPR or fuel pressure regulator, even if it LOOKS functional. I didn't and paid the price of having to remove and replace it after the engine didn' tstart or get fuel (return side).

I'd check out the fuel injectors also. I won't mention the wiring since you know you'll have to. Most is obvious like those burnt vac lines

yes fire... lil fire tho luckily... it was confined to a very small area...

this is the current state of my engine bay:

anything else aside from the FPR and hoses I need to replace? Car came with a new wiring harness.. a kid owned the car and soon learned he was in waaaaaaaaaaaaaay over his head. I picked it up for 400 dollars.

Just double check your electrical parts (such as injectors/etc), they could get damaged by the excess heat, other than that it's just replacing what you come accross thats melted. Good luck, and that's a good deal too!

Owwwwwwwww! That's a fire.

The water thermo sensor on the back of the water pump housing. You might want to make SURE it's good. Normally it's green in color. It's vital to the fuel injection system. Ohm it out to the online fsm.

The car I bought was a salvage vehicle that had a similar fire. The fuel injectors got replaced along with the fpr and pulsation damper. I kept the car in a stock configuration meaning I kept all the vacuum lines and solenoid. Those small vac lines had melted rubber in the ends and needed to be cleaned out so you could blow air thru them.

You NEED to make sure the harness he gave you with the car is FOR your car i.e. same series harness. One of those high vs low impedence issues and whether or not you have a solenoid resistor package with your new harness.

Also don't forget to replace the ground from the firewall to the top of the tranny, it looks like it got burnt and is missing in the picture.

Glad you got new oil injectors. Mine were toast. That looks like a series four manifold. /Don't forget about the fpr and pulsation damper.

There's a water thermo valve on the back of the throttle body. It's made of plastic. That green/white checkvalve in your picture goes to it. If melted you might want to replace it. Maybe not. It depends.

It's dedicated to something called a double throttle diaphram on the front/left of the throttle body. It functions to keep the outer set of throttle plates closed when the engine is cold. To me it's optional if you keep that or not. If you don't keep it you just have to keep off the throttle til you drive for ten or so minutes when the engine is cold. Something you'll do anyway with a cold engine.

ok my wife was the one posting above.

The fire was small.

It basically just burned the vacuum lines. It flamed up when he opened the hood and got the back of the upper manifold, hence the valve in the picture and those vacuum lines.

The picture really makes it look worse than it is, because I have a lot of things kinda sitting around

I do need to replace that check valve tho.. It doesnt look bad, but it's way too close to the melted lines.

THe thermo valve is good too.. It was out of the way of the fire.

The worst thing about the entire thing is that the guy who had it before me had a 'friend' start to fix it. He just started ripping **** out of the car adn throwing stuff, so I'm missing a bunch of bolts, and have to figure out what goes where.

But the FSM is VERY helpful
