What is the most commonly used oil in rotarys?
regular 10W-30 or 40 is common... 5W 30 if its cold... some ppl use 20W 50 and your car will sound like an indy car at high RPM's lol...
Other people recommend straight 30 wt... I've never tried this but I plan to someday when i have a spare engine lol...

lmfao. i am with you guys that use the castrol 20w-50. and with also of racing(drifting) it has worked out to be the best for me.
I've always used Castrol 20/50 in the summer with no problems. After I installed the Mazda reman. thought I would try the Rotella T 15/40. Little expensive, but affords more protection then the Castrol 20/50 which is no longer rated for diesel applications which it once was.

I still use GTX 20W50 in my RX fleet as I ahve posted in the past 50 threads asking this question.
Yes, I had nails for breakfast today.
DO NOT USE STRAIGHT 30W.
Way too thick when cold and first starting... would probably cause 5 months of wear on every cold start.
And as far as weights, this is covered in the FAQ for FC at the top of the section:
as well as countless posts on what oils to use as far as brand (hell there is even a poll)
So search next time before posting!!!!

What oil should I use in the FC?
According to Mazda:
In starting and operating temperatures below 20F, use 5W30
In starting and operating temperatures between 0F and 80F, use 10W30.
In starting and operating temperatures above 30F, use 20W50
Conventional oils 10W40 and 10W50 have been shown to increase deposits in many high reving motors and are generally no longer recommended.
