Question What model had this?

What model FC had the door panels with the speaker cut outs molded at the feet? I would like to buy a pair in grey but I don't know which models to look at.

Thanks

The door panels with the lower front speaker grill started showing up in the 89 model year, however the metal of the doors themsleves started showing up mid 88 with cut outs for a front lower speaker.

Why not just cut your existing panels and use the grill that comes with most speakers to finish it off? That's what I did, and it looks great. Though I needed to trim the metal inside the door a little to fit the coil...

None of the S4 models had them, in the front lower door spot. And again the metal was not even perfed for the speaker hole until mid 88.

The S4 models all had them above the arm rest.

The factory metal hole cut on the 87 was only above the armrest. On a car with it lower, it was either cut in aftermarket, or the doors have been replaced with a later models doors.

Do you think an 8" woofer can be put down in there? I want to put a 6 1/2" or 7"but just wanted to know if an 8" could fit.

In the door? I doubt it. Why don't you mount those speakers on the tops of your storage bins if ya have 'em.

i have a friend that mounted 8" subs in the rear shock towers to replace the original speakers back there...however with the lack of a proper enclosure they sound pretty crappy compared to what they should with a box of somekind.

oh and i have an 89 GTU without power windows that has door speakers by the foot. i dont think the previous owner woulda done that...he seems to have kept the car utterly and completely stock and it was in his family since it rolled off the dealers lot (although i suppose he could have).

I don't want to tear apart my storage bins because I only have one usable now, the driver side is acting as an amp storage, I don't want to go and limit the one stock one I have.
