It's special because my uncle has one (actually, an '86)rusting in his back yard. But really, they had the 4 piston brake calipers, 15" rims, factory aero kit, and often no sunroof or AC... kinda like a poor man's GTUs. It was one of the few 2nd gen models to be had sans sunroof, and that is a plus for some of us, like me... who wishes his 88 GXL had no sunroof. Damn broken sunroof.

I always thought of the Sport as the precursor to the GTUs.

I assume it's unmarked... if it has a crap-tastic little black spoiler, an aluminum hood, and no power steering or AAS, then it is quite possible it's a Sport. AC was optional.

What brakes does it have? On aaroncake.net there is a fc brochure. It lists every option the dif models had.

Wow, I feel like an idiot, Sport package cars did have power steering! I could have sworn my uncle said his didn't have it.

Sounds like you do have a Sport, congrats.

I like that lil black spoiler, I got one for my car a couple years ago...looks a lil dated now though w/ S5 tails and nose w/ mazdaspeed lip...the answer is RE amemiya type IV wing, will be on once the snow stops, it's sitting in the shop collecting some dust

i hated mine too ... thatz why i yanked it out and put a t2 wing on.. i know the sport wing is functional but i dont like it.... i wish i had a sunroof
i like the brakes and the suspension... that makes up for the loss of the sunroof...

Sports were the Sporty car before the Turbo2 and before the GTUs.

No tilt wheel, no power mirrors, no fancy Gee Gaws... just pure light weight sports car. Car and Driver even got a 0-60 in 7.6 second with one... making it the fastest 13B NA (up until the new RX-8 comes out).

Infact the Turbo got its suspension from the Sports.
