What's wrong with the stock one?

Most people use one or more of the following: boost, A/F, AGT, oil pressure, water temp, and fuel pressure gauges.

Haven't heard to much about aftermarket tach's...

After putting my s-afc in, it's obvious how off the stock tach is. When my tach reads 3000 the afc reads 2750. It's barely off, but who cares.

[/scarcastic] I use a 4' guage that takes place of the passenger seat. The shift light is set at 9k and and shoots blinding BLUE lasers into the retinas.

oh yeha, the light is accompanied by 100W continuous power to my tweeters and 2 20" subs.

A buddy of mine calls 'em alarm clocks when he sees some rice with one on the dash .

Hell, I've seen clocks that moved faster than Honda tachs....

Weird. My stock tach is perfect, and most others I've seen have been very good as well.

Wow I am tottaly aginst a add on Tach I am with Aaron that the stock one is fine. But a tach that times 0-60 and 1/4 mile is F-IN sweet! I have never heard of that. How accurate is that part of it? I would likr to get one and hide it in my glove box just to time myself.

Why do I not see prices on that web page? what do those things cost?

I agree that it's financially smarter to keep the stock tach, but I didn't have much choice with the 3-rotor, and I really like the 999mph speedo. The accuracy will depend a lot on how accurate the user programs in the rear tire diameter for the speedometer, and how much the tires slip. The nice thing is that you can set it up from the cockpit, rather than changing out speedo gears everytime you change tire sizes. I'll try mine out vs. the track timing light just as soon as I finish my 20B project (whenever that is, LOL). The SPA tachs go between $300 and $500, depending on the options and vendor. I got mine in a package deal with a bunch of other SPA dual gauges.

If you like keeping track of your acceleration/deceleration times, then you may like the G-Tech. It attaches to your windshield and cigarette lighter, so you can hide it any time you like. Yes, it does actually work. It is not as accurate as a time slip from the drag strip, but it is great for practicing and getting a general idea of how the car is running.

Evil Aviator thanks for that link it looks awsome! Im going to get the one with speedo. I was going to get one (Autometer) and I didnt want it at all but I have my 91 auto getting ported and 5 speed put in and you know the tach on the auto's come with redline at 7 and since Im also doing a streetport I really would like to see where Im at as I make power higher in the RPM's now.

And how can I order from them?

Thanks

Nick

I've got an Autometer 4499 Dual Range Tach. 0-4000 rpms is generally useless in a race car, so the largest window of operation on the tach is 5000-10000 rpm for more visual accuracy.

The next step up will be the MyChron data logging/tach/lap timer system. Sounds like a good Christmas present to myself!

the only way i would get a tach is i would bridge port or heavily street port the car that the stock tach couldnt read the rpm im actually at on high end.. for example.. my bridged ported 85 12a.... shifting at 10000 is hard on that stock tach.. or when i do my street port on my 91 na... and i have to shift over 9000 which i doubt... ill get another autometer in front of the clock and warning lights

Actually, I was originally going to go with Autometer gauges, but their speedometer only went up to 200mph, and their representative was a jerk and didn't want to go through the paperwork of ordering me a 250mph speedo. I'm actually glad, because the SPA gauges are much better, and they only cost me a little bit more, but take up half the dash space.

I'm not really sure where you can get a good deal on the SPA gauges right now. You may just want to email SPA for a dealer. They have always been very helpful in answering my annoying email questions promptly. Pegasus carries them, but their prices are not all that great. http://pegasusautoracing.com/products.htm

I've got the same setup Chris Wire has, Autometer Ultralight ProComp. I put an aluminum backing plate on the inside of the dash and screwed it down.
