is this what i think it is?

this came off a s4 t2 and it had a counter weight behind it

is this a lightweight flywheel or just how the stock t2 flywheels look?

That doesn't look stock at all. How much does it weigh? My S4 turbo flywheel weighs like 27something pounds.

i was just trying to see if it was some performance part that i could sell as i have no use for it

and also why would there be a weight behind it as well? it looks like the front counter weight only bigger

If it has a counter weight, odds are very good it is lighter.

Oh, here is what stock flywheels look like (I knew I had seen it somewhere online).

So... how much are you looking to get for the flywheel and counterweight?

hey, "whereiscarmensandiego"

Did you need something to hold the flywheel still to get the BIG 2 &1/8'' essentric nut off, or did you use a 1/2 impact?? I'm putting my prolite(9lbs)flywheel on my 88 T2 this weekend and was wondering. Thanks,
-Dustin.

Search, don't hijack threads, and no you don't need to stop the flywheel using an impact but it probably makes it easier.

I'll get a little off topic, but will first answer your question about the counterweight.

The stock flywheels on cars with a manual transmission have the counterweight bult-in. The aftermarket ones don't - they're balanced evenly, so you have to use a separate counterweight to balance the rotating parts of the engine.

Automatics have the counterweight and flywheels separately, so when going with an aftermarket flywheel, you just get a rear counterweight off the same series (S4 is heavier than S5) from an auto. tranny car.

In essence, since the weight of the rotors is lighter for S5 engines, the S5 man. flywheel, front countershaft, and rear countershaft (only present with auto. trannies) work in combination with each other. If you mix rotors and countershafts or man. flywheels between series, you introduce an imbalance.

whereiscarmensandiego,
The first flywheel shown is definitely not the stock TII flywheel, but I don't have any idea what flywheel it is. It's common to use the automatic counterweight with after market lightened flywheels to balance it out.

lovingthefc3s,

Mazdatrix makes and sells flywheel stoppers that are cheap and very handy to have around for these kinds of jobs if you don't have an impact available.

I have always just used the stopper, 54mm socket on breaker bar and pipe to break the not loose. Man power.
