What is this hose & how to get it on?

I missed this hose during my rebuild and after the fact install isn't working. It goes from the firewall pipe as part of the brake boost system(?) and goes to the intermediate plate. Engine is in and all built up and I can't install the hose on the engine side nipple. I can touch the nipple but there's a hardline or stiff harness in the way that prevents putting on the hose. Before I tear all the way down removing things to gain access, is there a trick to putting this hose on? Its a 90 convertible.

its a hose that connects the intermediate plate to the charcoal cannister.
One way to get at the nipple is to knock the oil filler tube loose and pull it up and out of the way, then put the hose on.
But,try cutting the old end of the hose so that it has a fresh end to put on the nipple, add some lube and do NOT use any clamp..it should just slide on.

Oh, charcoal canister--Thanks. Some reason I thought it was brake related. I really don't want to tap the oil tube up, but I'll try cutting the hose like you mention. Clamp is definetly out of the question. Can't believe I forgot that freakin hose.

Luckily I was able to get it on by swearing and by tips given here, but I removed this to gain access and was wondering what it was???
