ok on my n/a 88 se under the vin plate in the engine bay theres a clear looking box for some kind of fluid i think the lines on it are one goes to the side of the engine the other goes back to the motor on the box. does anyone know what the hel this **** is and what goes in it. and also what would be the best oil to use when i change the oil. also why when i open the lid to add oil it smells like gas in there? i need help.

 

It sounds like you could use an owners manual. I think the tank you're looking at is the cold start assist. It would normally have anti-freeze solution in it. Most people remove it.

 

An 88 with >100k miles in florida - use 20w50 regular (not synthetic).

 

That is normally caused by leaky injectors. Run a bottle or two of injector cleaner through the gas, and it should idle & start better also.

 

You might want to check your pulsation damper which tends to leak fuel and cause ENGINE FIRES. Are you nervous now? You should be.
