What the heck is up with my starter?

So I went out to start the car earlier today to troubleshoot why its been running rough since completing the five speed swap.

I have the starter connected like normal, except the small spade connector up top. I have that disconnected from the factory harness, and I have a wire run from the ignition switch side of the black/red wire to that spade terminal on the starter, as per kevin/Rotary Resurrections instructions.

However, I've had issues with the car not cranking very fast, but if i connect it to another car with cables itl fire right up. but my biggest concern...

when i turn the key to start, and let off for the key to go back to ON, the starter KEEPS TURNING. It only did it for an occasional second, but tonight I had the key out of the START position for a good five seconds and it was STILL GOING. Could this be a bad starter? the solenoid getting stuck or something?

Someone please help. All I did was run the one wire kevin specified to run, so I know it cant be that. because with that disconnected the starter wont engage period.

You're not going to be able to tell much without a DMM. You can assume that it's a bad starter, or you can simply meter the spade and see if something wonky is going on with the ignition switch. I've seen your other thread, we can only troubleshoot so much over the Internet . Get down there with a meter and you'll have an answer pretty quick.

sounds like a faulty and sticking starter solenoid.

Wouldn't be a sticky starter relay would it? Or is the relay and solenoid considered the same thing on these?

Also, your vibration, did you get ALL correct components? As in 89+ counterweight, and flywheel? Did you remember to put in the input shaft bearing into the engine? You also could've damaged it putting in since you had to wrestle getting the trans into the engine. I'd be more worried about the vibration than the start if it were me, starter is easy to fix with minimal disassembly

Pilot bearing is fine if thats what you mean, I took the tranny out entirely and felt the pilot bearing, it felt fine, before i tilted the engine back at the block, and yeah, flywheel is N350, S5.

It has to be torqued down, if my impact gun got it off, im pretty sure at full power and 120 psi wide open until the flywheel started to move, then me holding the flywheel for another second or two wide open was good enough.

I know the transmission adapter has about 1/4 of an inch of just dead space, maybe thats where the vibration is coming from, kevins guide didnt say that the bushing from the crossmember when put back on the stud leaves a gap between the tranny, and adapter bracket/nut. even with washers, the diameter of the stud is different on the threading, after that it steps up to a thicker diameter. so theres just some empty space floating there. I'll go to the hardware store tomorrow and pickup some thicker washers, see if that cuts down on it. I'm waiting on my friend to send me the bracket V8kilr designed. revving the motor up high the vibration doesnt get worse, it just feels like its misfiring occasionally. weird.
