Thumbs down What have i gotten into?

I have a 1989 rx7 gtus non-turbo and the motor recently took a crap at 74,000 miles i bought a new motor from mazda and now it is ready to go back in. but i have a complete mess of vacuum hoses and i have no clue where they go, also the air pump was removed by the previous owner so i know my power valves dont work basically what im asking is there any way to simplify the vacuum harness and not hurt anything i dont care if my power valves work or not i just want reliability.

Thanks

Mazda factory replacements for an NA are $2K, the TII's are $2500...and with a warranty too. Don't make rediculous statements without knowing what you are talking about since you are obviously guessing. It's not that bad considering you are getting all new housings, seals and rings vs. sending it off to someone that "says" your castings are within spec. Right.

Go to http://www.Iluvmyrx7.com for any manuals you may need for free. That will help you out.

Look at it this way. When you're finished you'll know that car better than the back of your hand

Good luck!

Yes there is a strategy to removing the vacuum lines but I'll insist that you do a search as this topic has been covered numerous times and there are full write-ups out there on how to do it. Until you get a stand-alone ECU, however, you won't be able to get rid of them all, just some of them.

Instead of just removing things randomly, why not just take a look at either the Haynes or Factory Service Manual? The FSM is in the FAQ, and contains full documentation of everything bolted to the engine. Covers the solenoids, vacuum lines, wiring diagrams, etc.

The haynes manual is good... but there's a colorized version someone made of the vacuum diagrams floating around somewhere that is alot easier to decipher.

edit; NM... i was thinking of the s4 diagram i saw.

That's actually a pretty fair price, I've priced out other engines from different manufacturer's and they can easily double that. Perhaps the person who posted the original statement was acting on that assumption. Where would you order a Mazda replacement engine anyway? Would that price hold up if I went to a local dealership?

My point there was to "not" assume and make factual statements. I did buy a short block with a core deposit exchange S5 TII motor about 6 years ago and still see them even now for the same pricing. The "remanufactured" engines actually come out of a warehouse on the east coast (Ga or thereabouts, can't remember right now which state down there), since they made an excessive amount so you're really purchasing a brand new motor under that guise, it is quite a good deal.

I bought mine directly through the mazda dealership at the time, I would believe you should be able to do the same currently as well. I have also seen motors through various vendors such as corksport, pineapple racing, etc, etc, to name a few.

they are remanufactured

good parts are recycled, new or salvaged parts are used to replace bad stuff.
