What gear to you 'cruise' in?
Question -
When your on the highway cruisin around 55-60 mph what gear are you in?
I have an FC3C. @ 60mph 3rd gear is 4700rpm and 4th gear is 3500rpm. Redline is 8k
i normally keep it in 4th.
I'd like some other opionions...

Well, i know that... but 3500 rpm isn't that high and 5th gear is like 2700..
I was just wondering... Some people here say they redline every gear too... isnt that wasting gas??

I sometimes go in 5th, but then when i want to pass shifting to third or second isnt really good for the car is it now?

I don't know about the "lower RPM saves gas" statement- I (and I've seen others say the same thing) get better gas mileage at 75-80 mph than I do at 55-60...Luckily I have the opportunity every day to do 75-80 for 35 miles or so on an interstate (unless it's raining)on the way to work, so I've verified this numerous times...BTW, that's 3500 to 3800 RPM's in 5th, I couldn't imagine doing it in 4th

I have been in my car for 5 years so shifting is not a conscious thing to me anymore. I don't cruise in 3rd any faster than 30mph, 4th no faster than 45. For being a streetport I have pretty good low end so I can keep it under 2500 and be ok.

the reason you get better gas at higher speeds in the rx is becuase that is where the torque and horse power meet, and if you dyno your car you would find out that the rpm that it occurs is roughly what rpms you cruising at, and fith gear is what i stay in when cruising down the intersate, gas to expensive here

i crusie in 4th at about 70-80 in my vert, about 5k(i think). I like the sound and the power it has right there i don't really care about gas, i only put it in fith when the gas light is on or my girlfriend is in the car and i want to hear her talk. The vert will do 90 in 3rd though(thats about 9.5k)

torque and horsepower meet at 5250 rpms, on every gasoline internal combustion engine built by man, according to something I read a long time ago by a guy a lot smarter than me who proved this through mathematics...I think the reason has to do with the dynamics of the engine itself- the rotors are basically acting like a flywheel (they don't have to change directions like a piston)...simple physics dictates that the more momentum a flywheel- type object has, the more inherent energy it has...that, and the aerodynamics of the body don't produce appreciable increases in drag with moderate speed increases on the freeway, until what, maybe 90-95 mph?

I noticed theres no change in gas milage when I shift at 2.5K and when I shift at 3.8K. Its all in the speed you accelerate at.
I cruze on the highway at 60-80 depending, in 5th gear.
