what exhaust do you guys recommend?
I am trying to help my friend get rid of her exhaust........we already agreed that the car is TOO DAMN LOUD......i believe she has RB 2 to 1 header, into the RB midpipe into an Apex N1 Duals...
I was thinking the RB true duals but I have no idea how loud it is.....she want's her car to still sound good but just keep the decibel level down a bit.
Any recomendsations?

et rid of the header, and the N1s. Replace them with the stock manifold and the RB muflers. Then it will be much quieter. And of course, there will be some power loss to this.
Or, wait...dont the N1's have silencers?

what would minimize powerloss and still sound decently loud? I want her to keep the power up(dyno-tuned to 150 rwhp) but she wants it to be loud, but not AS loud as it is now...

Racing beat says there is only a 1 HP difference between the header and the stock manifold with the downpipe..... The greatest gains from a header come with carberating or supercharging......
I had a header and a 4" Re amimya header back on a GTU.... put the racing beat system on with the stock manifold and RB downpipe/ presilencer/ catback... and the only difference i noticed was that my fillings weren't rattling in my head from the noise.... THere was no noticable difference in power

I'm going to suggest the underdog...as I know no other FC (that I know of) Is running a ss Brullen Exhaust setup as I am. I ran this with a RB Header and ss Cat on my NA which was respectibly loud aswell as with my current Turbo setup. No Cat - just the Brullen Mufflers. The Turbo does a good job muffling the sound even though I've got 3" diameter for piping.

The bigger the muffler body is the more effective it is, which is why those silly little Apex cans are so loud. If you want to quieten it down a bit and not lose power, then keep the header, presilencer and all pipework, cut the Apex mufflers off and replace them with mufflers of the same pipe diameter (2" or whatever they are) but with much bigger bodies. Fit the widest and longest mufflers you can find. Power should not be affected since the internal pipe size is the same.

If you wanna quiet down your exhaust and still have torque, look no further.

sell them in 2 and 3 disk sizes with almost all sizes.

I did what NZConvertible is saying on my Vert and it works great. I used a long glasspack cheap muffler with the RB header and presilencer made it single exhaust and the car has a very nice rotary tone. Not like those Apex cans that make your Rotor sound just like a Civic. I did it for a week and threw them away. Plus you can take off about 60 pounds in weight doing a single exhaust and create better backpressure.

Have you ever looked or examined an RB muffler? If you had you would know you are out of your mind calling a Racing Beat muffler restrictive.
This is provable fact and I can prove it if I have to again:
Racing Beat mufflers are STRAIGHT THROUGH 2"(N/a) 2.35"(TII?) mufflers. They have NO baffles and no restrictions. They WORK because they are actual mufflers not just a perforated pipe with a round housing weleded onto them like most fart cans out there.

Mazdatrix True Duals
The above link is to a video of me in my GTU and Wankel7 and his TII. Listen to my car as it has True duals. Which is what I would recommend for an N/a any day over any other exhaust i've hear in person or on a sound clip here. The tone is moderate until you are "on-it" or you are in high rpms. If she has the budget i'd say buy a true dual exhaust BUT from Racing Beat as they have a better priced set than Mazdatrix. It also comes to within ~100 dollars of a full Racing beat collected setup which is the next setup I would opt for personally. You said she wants it to be "decently loud" so true duals would adhear to that wish a little better than a collected exhaust since the volume is a little higher than most QUALITY collected setups. It will be a step down in the noise department from N1's I can tell you that. Wankel7 had N1's on his TII and it was louder than my N/a at idle I don't want to think of an N/a with N1's

i had the racing beat dual catbacks. sounded quiet but with the rb header it should have great tone and not lose much power. or you could add a turbo thatll muffle it a little.

**** man.....now they are telling me to not bother wasting money on the true duals when I already have RB header and presilencer......so I might as well get the catback and finish it......or I could get the Borla........both cost the same.......

Not to jack your thread or anything, but has anyone ever done like a CHEAP setup, by going to AutoZone and obtaining two cherry-bomb-style mufflers and put those on? I assume it would be pretty loud, but would it also sound crappy? Just wondering if anyone has attempted this, because the mufflers are only like $20 and you can get different inlet/outlet sizes.
My friend and I put one on our Scirocco, but that is our race car and it has no cat, so it's pretty loud. If you do this to a 7, but keep your high-flow cat or pre-silencer, it should quiet it down. I have never done this; I just wanted to see if anyone has and what the outcome was.

I have an S4 with bomb mufflers on the rear. It sounds loud but with a nice tone. But I couldn't imaging it being worth a crap for more than a few months.
Edit I forgot to mention the car isn't "mine" i just have it at my house trying to fix the ******.

Yeah, I figured that those mufflers wouldn't really last that long. That's cool that it has a good tone, though. I didn't think that those cheap mufflers would sound that great. The one on our Scirocco sounds really good when the car is at idle, but when you give it gas, it sounds way different. I don't really like the sound when it's under power. It sure is sweet at idle, though.
