What else should I ask?

Well, I'm looking at buying a 1989 GXL (I assume you know it's an RX7 ). The car seems to be in good condition, has about 135k miles on it.

I've already asked the seller the following (his answers are under the question)

Q. Have you rebuilt the engine recently?

A. No, there's never been a reason to rebuild the motor. It still runs
fine.

Q. Does the car burn oil?

A. It burns less than a quart every 1000 miles. Excessive oil use was a
problem on the first generation RX-7s but has been corrected in this model.

Q. What RPM does the engine idle at?

A. about 800 RPM

Q. Was it inspected this year and is it driven regularly?

A. No, I have not had it inspected this year. I had taken it off the road in October and haven't driven it since, although I did start if from time to time during the winter just to run it. The last time it was inspected was 2002 and it passed with no problems. I should have the
inspection report somewhere that you can see if interested.

Q. Is everything stock? All the emissions equipment and such still there?

A. Yes all parts are stock. I assume you're asking about after market add on stuff. There is none of that on my car. Besides the regular maintenance I've only need to replace the clutch all the while I've owned it. The plugs,
filters, wiper blades, brake pads, exhaust system and battey are what I consider regular maintenance and they are factory specified replacement parts. No trick kits.

Is there anything else I should ask?

Does the car seem like it'd be a good buy?

The Kelly Blue Book value for private party is $2,150 and he's asking $2,700, so I guess I have my negotiation range. Just figured I'd ask the experts first if there are other questions I should ask? I'm rechecking the "buyers guide" as well.

Oh, I also asked if I could come down and check it out in person before making a decision and was told yes, so if nothing else he's probably telling the truth, otherwise why say I could come and check it out first? (I am still going to check it out before making a decision )

if you can get a hold of a compression gauge ,, ask the guy if you can test it. check for rust. ,, check all the electrical stuff. the lights, the gauges,, the headlight motor. fire it up and let it idle for like 15 minutes.. watch the temp gauge and make sure it stays within range.. i believe the 89's stay dead center.. correct me if im wrong. other than that just keep a look out for anything you need to replace..
