What does this plug do?

After getting my clutch replaced, I noticed a plug was left unplugged on the transmission, underneath the car. It is on the driver's side, toward the rear of the tranny. I have no idea if it was plugged in prior to getting the clutch replaced. I plugged it in. No noticeable difference in anything. Anyone know what this plug is for? It is an 88 GXL na.

Over the top switch. Sometimes called a fifth gear switch. Signals the ECU that your in fifth gear, most likely for emission/fuel conservation reasons. I don't really know. Just a guessing. If you had a turboii, I'd say for sure, its to pull in the split air solenoid to supply more air to the catalytic converter.
