what does a lc-1 wideband controller do?

http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/p...products_id=41

what happens if i just get the wideband sensor without the lc-1? Is it then unusable by the megasquirt?

no. a wideband is a heated unit. the controler just controles the heating element inside to produce good af/r readings. from this, you can use it on the megasquirt. it wimpl will not work withought one.

The wide-band (sensor) is useless without the controller unit.
The controller unit takes the output signal and turns it into information you can use.
Else, the wide-band is just going to spit out a 0 - 5V signal at you - do you know how to read that?

A wideband usually puts out a 1-5 volt signal.. narrow bands usually put out 0-1v..

A wideband is AT LEAST twice the cost of a regular narrowband O2 sensor....

You need the LC-1 and you need to set the analog output to emulate a normal O2 Sensor (analog 1 is preset for that from innovate) the hook the analog 1 out to the megasquirts O2 in)

That being said.. Megasquirt is supposed to be comming out with a Megasquirt "ultra" that has wideband O2 controller circuitry inside it..... but, as far as I know, it aint out yet.. and you will still need a controller like the LC1 or the LM1 (personally, I'd get the LM-1 and have the display, but thats me)

PS.. The LC-1 is just a cable with a controller unit.. it has no display.. the LM-1 has the display (wich takes the output from the controller unit and puts it onto a bar graph and a digital number) The LC-1 just spits out data for an ECU with wideband capability or a display unit/ datalogger to use.

But it's important to note that the LC-1 kit from Innovate DOES include datalogger software and the appropriate cables to hook up and read the data with a serial port equipped laptop, so that'd be all you need for tuning - tune it correctly once and then you can really forget about it. It has two analog outputs that are both configurable - like YearsOfDecay pointed out, analog1 is correctly set to simulate narrowband from Innovate, so that would tie into your computer, analog 2 you could configure to be a second narrowband and get a cheap Air/Fuel gauge that would at least tell you when you need to retune, and reconfigure it for wideband and add a true wideband gauge later.

So if you've got a laptop with a serial port, the LC1 will get you tuned and moving, and you can expand it to a full gauge setup later.
