I downloaded a video from a website of someone off this board with a red RX7. The name of the video is "detonation.mov" but all shows is the inside view an an FC and everything sounds normal except for a very soft "dink dink." but dosen't detonation sound like "pop pop"?

 

It sounds like popcorn popping inside the engine.

 

hahaha WTF. how did you find that? that's my movie but there is no links to it. you can hear a single click in the middle. I'm still trying to figure out if it is or not... it sort of sounds like it but there is only one ping. so I don't think it is. normaly it's alot of pings in a row.

also I've heard it many times and the engine still runs so it must be something else

How did I find it? I'll PM you with how I did it, for the sake of privacy.

I'm considering getting this local blue Turbo II and I'm just doing some research on detonation "just in case." My parents' Mazda MPV makes a tinkling sound a lot like that from the engine bay. It's almost inaudible, and it sounds more like something rattling than misfirings in the cylinders.

 

In a piston engine it sounds like a little rattling in the engine...try putting some high octane gas in there and see if it goes away.

 

My friend's dad's 502 big block dualie had a pair of dead injectors and detonated under load. It just made a flat popping noise. The MPV makes a nearly inaudible "tink-tink-tink" instead of "pop pop pop," because all the popping noises are from the tranny.
