What do you think of your car?

First I should say I am a shopper. If I got an rx-7 I would get a turbo second gen. I have a few questions for all of you owners before I go and take the plunge.
Be honest with me here!

1.How do you like your car in general?

2.What do you really like about your car?

3.What do you really dislike about it?

4.How is maintenance on these vehicles?

5.How are parts prices? Does it cost a nut and a half to buy simple easy parts?

6.What else do you think I should know about these cars?

I am currently a Fiero owner...how do these compare to you? (no fire jokes...please)

Any ways....these are just a few things I could think of.
Feel free to add any other commentary you feel necessary. I am trying to get lots of feedback here.
Thanks.

1) Love my car 1987 GXL
2) The way I can rev the crap outta my engine without bending or throwing a rod
3) Frequent maint. work but hell its a race car what you expect.
4) Read 4
5) Parts are cheap and bad *** gains from them
6) That these babys can be sure reliable as long as you will spend the money. No you wont be spending lots. I just think its lots cuz I work minimum wage. There fast there handling is great and these cars are preety rare in my part so when I pull up to these weed whacking sounding cars its fun to see them take off and then me catching up and leaving them. =) GL

1) Absolutely LOVE my car

2) How much fun it is to drive

3) Nothing to Dislike

4) Not alot of maintanence to do on mine other then the regular oil changes etc etc..

5) Parts prices are not too terrible if you know where to shop

6) They are the most fun cars to drive. The engine is absolutely amazing as it revs up and dead smooth. They are fast, nimble, sexy looking, sound awesome, feel awesome to drive, just a great car all around. I can honestly say I feel at home in my car and when I ride in other vehicules its just not the same. Nothing gives me the thrill when driving like my TII does. I love her to death and will keep her as long as life allows me to.

no, part prices aren't over priced.

don't be scared or 'unsure'... just get one and experience it for yourself. you will love it. and people who vote for anything other than "i absolutely love it" just don't know what they are doing.

i agree with the reliability/modding parts... but replacement parts are more expensive becasuse it's an older car. i'm sure the fiero has some parts that would cost a little more than a '96 windstar...

true... i wasnt necessarily talking stock parts though, your going to eventually replace most of the stuff anyways. and in order to go fast without blowing up your car you need to buy quality stuff, not just what you can afford at the moment... thats a BIG mistake a lot of people make all the time.

These rotary engines are different than piston engines and so need more attention because you can't just go to a commen mechanic and have him check it out, most of them are out in the clouds. The engine is sensitive to detonation, if it happens it mighgt need a rebuild. So, if injector get clogged then rottor chainber is goin to lean out detonate and bust. I used one of those injector cleaning bottles and two weeks later busted engine. I thinks it's a side seal, but then again i can only especulate. These engines if modded need to run a bit rich to protect against detonation.

These cars run smoth handle very good and are a joy to drive. I need to finish fixing mine so that I can start to love it again.

i love my car it feels like no other car although it's n/a.
even though it's n/a it still has a pretty quick take off.
i just need to fix:
Rear Diff
Eng Mounts
Clutch
Brakes
Shocks
other than those bitch *** things and some electrical problems this car is like no other. they feel nice and are unique unlike all the gazillion hondas out there though hondas are more reliable it all just depends on the drivers taste hehe.

engine just went out (used engine + another 80K miles), so we're not talking right now. so, in short, i can't say i love it.
they're great cars and i "shopped" (did a lot of thinking) and came to the conclusion that this car is a good choice. dont know another car i'd rather have in the price range. thats a major key: _price range_.

1.How do you like your car in general? Right now my car is dead at 164,000 miles because the previous owner was a dumbass and didnt maintain it well. So i'm having no fun with a dead car

2.What do you really like about your car? ROTARY POWER... and great styling

3.What do you really dislike about it? When you look at the doors they dent.

4.How is maintenance on these vehicles? Not as bad as people make it out to be.

5.How are parts prices? Does it cost a nut and a half to buy simple easy parts? Nope... I've found decent prices on most everything i needed. Most were actualy from a dealership....

6.What else do you think I should know about these cars? ummm They RULE

Re: What do you think of your car?

1.I'm absolutely in love with it. I haven't had it long, and it has lots of little quirks I need to fix, but dangit I really love it already!

2.My biggest joy from the car is the handling. I have taken this car (88 Turbo II) down a mountain at speeds that I would never even DREAM of approaching in another vehicle, and the car felt rock-solid the whole time.

3.I don't know if there's anything I really dislike about it yet that would be common to RX7's in general, all of my issues would probably be specific to my car.

4.You definately have to take care of them, but it's not any more expensive than any other sports/performance car.

5.Once again, parts prices are comparable to other sports/performance cars. Not really bad so far.

6.If you drive a good one, you'll never want to go back to anything else I'm selling my previous much higher powered sports car now that I have this TurboII, I'm so in-love with it
I am currently a Fiero owner...how do these compare to you? (no fire jokes...please)
That's hard to say. I've always been a big F-body guy, always wanted a 4th gen etc. etc. I was also looking for a good fiero, but after driving this Turbo II there was no other choice. It simply handles, accelerates, rides, and sounds incredible. Sure, my camaro is faster in a straight line, but there's no way I'd give up my RX7 for it now (and that's saying a lot, I've put a ton of money, time, blood sweat and tears into that thing ). Hope that helps

here are my remarks for this car:

1) the body style.

2) the rotary reputaion it has carried.

3) the one thing i hate is the CHEAP interior parts that brakes so easily (i know you guys can vow for that one).

4) if you have great knowledge in automotive you are ok.

5) on the getting parts, i use to own a 1988 Chrysler Conquest TSI, & the getting parts for it wasn't easy.
very EXPENSIVE! (even aftermarket ones), even at that they didn't have enough options for aftermarket parts.
i even went on a site for these cars & the guys that made some of the aftermarket parts were expensive. so compare to the rx-7 in finding parts is easier for me & cheaper as well.

6) these cars are alot of fun to drive...

this is the Conquest that i once owned & replaced by the RX-7: http://www.26liter.us/dugallery/cat.asp?iCat=54

When first looking for a car, my original choices were put out of my price range after putting everything into perspective. I was looking through the paper for 240sx's and the likes, and not finding anything when I came across an rx7. Didn't say what year, model, or anything, but I heard they were pretty fast so I checked it out online. At this point, not even knowing what a rotary was, I looked at some pics of other rx7s, and for the price the guy wanted, I really wanted to get the car.

We drove to go take a look at it, and when we first pulled up next to it, I could tell I wanted it from there. It looked 10x better in person than in any picture I had seen online, even with the crappy paint on it, "powered by rice" sticker on the back window , and flame decal seatbelt pads. After learning it was only $3800, and had a new rebuild about 10k ago, came with some audio stuff, and had a very clean interior, I wanted that car to be mine. Took it for a test drive and damn it was fast compared to all the other garbage I had been looking at in my price range. We got it checked out by a rotary mechanic, everything was fine except an axle problem which was like a $600 fix at the place we had it, but we took it to our mechanic who did it for $300.

After that was all fixed, we got a new paintjob, and after all the ooo's and aaahhh's i've gotten in this car, and the great power it has, I should have been looking for rx7's all along instead of some other garbage. I absolutely LOVE this car, and short of having a 3rd gen rx7, there are hardly any cars inside the price range difference that I would take over the two. I've started modding it now, and its not as expensive to get going faster with just bolt-ons, but once you want REALLY fast, the prices start going higher and higher. Basic modding is pretty cheap though.

My story about my RX is similar to Acelot

i was an owner of a 91 eclipse slightly modded and was on the internet looking for a car for a friend...he wanted a sporty car small and possibly rear wheel drive...so i started looking and came across my RX!

as soon as i read it i wanted it was but currently out of a job and wouldn't be working for another 2 weeks!
what to do... easy sell my friend my car as long as he drove me 400km both ways to pick up this car! $800 and only 10K on a bran new engine!

Sold the car there and then and went to go check out the car the next day with a few buddies

Picture looked back and it looked kinda worse in person.. felt like i had wasted the trip...

but i decided to take her for a test drive anyways.. soon as i tunred it over and started it i already liked the way the engine sounded and felt when i reved it (after it had warmed up obviously!) after the test drive i wanted it at any cost! (and $800 was the cost.. np there!)

in my opinion it's a great car.. sure there are better cars (in the rear wheel drive market) but imo the RX-7 also scores majore originality points with is 1.3l wankel engine!

buy the car!!

I voted I liked it but would of voted I absolutely love it if all the dents, dings, fender and front were fixed up but other than that I love this car.

1.I like it alot and probly wont ever sell it except for a better S5 TII with lower miles or an FD
2.Rotary Powered
3.The over rev buzzer is to loud
4.These cars need special attention and have frequent problems but are fine if your on top of all the maintenance.
5.LMFAO a nut an a half...they do cost a nice dollar
6.No matter what problems the car brings the motor makes up for it.Very smooth and hi reving with good hp gains and big fucken flames.

1.How do you like your car in general?

I absolutely love my RX-7s. They are the reason I get out of bed in the morning, if that's any indication.

2.What do you really like about your car?

What's not to love? They respond SO well to being driven hard, I love nailing the gas in 3rd and hitting boost and having the car jump all over the place. ******* great. No other way to describe it.

3.What do you really dislike about it?

Nothing, honestly. They're quirky cars but that's all part of the adoration. I will admit it's frustrating that I can't enter either of my TIIs from the driver side because the door handle/lock is screwed up one way or the other...

4.How is maintenance on these vehicles?

Same as anything else. Keep up on it with decent parts and you'll be fine. So many people think it's an ordeal to keep these things running....it's not.

5.How are parts prices? Does it cost a nut and a half to buy simple easy parts?

Prices aren't THAT bad, availability is a pain in the *** sometimes. I couldn't even get spark plugs from Autozone the other day, had to go to Advance. But yes, be prepared to pay a little extra for certain things. Those plugs? 4 of them cost me $23 for NGKs.

6.What else do you think I should know about these cars?

Don't bother getting one if you can't or won't work on your own car. You have to be willing to understand how they work and accept their quirks. Most shops I wouldn't let touch a rotary with a 10-foot pole....

Basically, don't get an RX-7 just to say "I have an RX-7". Get an RX-7 because you can't stand the thought of driving anything else.

i third that

after playing with rx7's for like 10years, i got to work on and drive a fiero. the feiro was harder to work on, and ive never wanted to get out of a car that bad before in my life! it had a lamborghini kit, it was like apollo 13 in there.
