I'm looking into a relative's non-turbo RX-7. It's an 87 convertible, with an automatic tranny.
To be honest, I think it's a peace of $h!t.
But in any case, I'd like to hear from the knowledgeable gearheads, to see if it's really worth it to completely restore this car.
I'm talking about a full restoration, and even a 5 spd transmition swap.
I already have a Turbo Supra, and I love it!
But I'm also looking to add more cars for my car club.
The club basically consists of turbo imports.
How much will I be looking to spend on this project?

Being its Auto and Convertable..it seems to be set out to just be a smooth, fun ride.
Dump more money in the turbo sports car (in your case, the supra) or get a TII.
I wouldn't work on converting the convert..:P. Keep it as a fun secondary car. Just make it look pretty:

any restoration (to an rx7) will cost a lot of $$$. i own two automatic rx7's(and a hand full of manual rx7's) and ya really can not get the automatics to perform like a true sports car. one of my automatic convertible rx-7's has quite a few performance mods done to it(by a previous owner) and its faster than a manual rx7(but only a lil bit) but now it gets 13 mpg! automatic convertible rx7 are only good for crusing and for chicks.
