What do you think?

My friend wants to race my girlfriends 89 GTU in his CRX, its got intake, headers, and a nice sounding exhaust note but no after market exhaust. He has alos got a racing clutch and new tranny. The back of his car says SI but I didn't even know if they made SI crx's its an older model not sure on the exact year tho. He says hes putting out ~130 hp and thinks he can beat her because he is so much lighter.

Well I told him she was probably putting out ~130 (guess) and asked him what he weighed, he said 2200 I expected alot lighter for a crx. He has also got about 200 - 300 lbs of stereo equipment too.

My gf has intake, gutted cats (stock cans), and the vdi wired open, ohh and new tires. How much hp do you thinks she is putting out?

And who do you think the winner will be?

if youre girlfriend can drive decently i'd say she takes him. i think the SI CRX's came with 127 hp stock. with his i-h-e he prob gained a few horses but i doubt he's putting 130 to the ground.

my friend has a nice 90 SI CRX with intake...i've raced from a very low roll one time (like 5mph). first gear was even then in second i started to pull and 3rd i pulled more. this was in my 91 n/a with intake and exhaust. good luck!

realistically, i/h/e will add 8 to 10 at the wheels, tops for the crx.

BTW I will be driving, I have raced him before the other day but I had two pasengers and bogged down on the launch (long *** red light and kept having to take my foot off the gas and brake or else I would roll into traffic ) He took off kinda fast but I am convinced I can get him. now I just need to run into him again.

thx guys

Make it from a roll, 60-110. She'll win.

you gotta watch out for the 93 preludes or whatever, the ones with the triangular lights in the back because some of those have vtec.

92-96 preludes. lighter weight than the 5th gens, and 180HP *I think*

Ya CRXs don't usually get too fast till they get some major engine work or a swap. They run the same basic 1/4 mile stock as an NA FC.

well if you have a n/a fc, then you are going to have a tough time beating the vtec. i know i did when i still had my car. i raced a 93 prelude with vtec and it had intake and exhaust and i berely beat it. i think he missed a gear but im not sure.

to clarify....
1. even if it IS an SI, nothing to worry about. it has the d16a6 in it...translation...108 crank hp, no VTEC. i used to have one, 88 si with i/e. i ran a 15.9 @ 87mph at e-town. with me in the car, it weighed 2075lbs.
2. some EG style preludes (92-95) had vtec, 200hp, but they weigh alot...2900lbs or so, correct me if im wrong.
alot of crx guys think their car is the **** cause it weighs nothing.
on the forum i used to be on, there was a guy with a JRSC that put out 200crank HP, and everyone thought he was the ****.
unless there is a B16 or B18 under the hood, this fool has no chance
