What do we know about running Just a header?

I am working on my new project.

I will be putting a S4 engine into a rail buggy.

My question is, does a header produce the same amount of power without a tuned pipe? Or will it produce more?

Being its for a dune buggy and most likey the header will be long enough to clear anything important.

Next question is.. How well does the ignition packs handle water getting splashed on them? Also for the CAS?

I assume all these parts would handle getting wet from rain?

Thanks...

Just a header will be fine and will make plenty of power but will be extreamly LOUD! Running a tuned pipe will make just as much power as running an open header as long as its not restrictive. As for the coils and the CAS, I wouldnt let them get soaked but a little water wont hurt.

Not true. An open header would put the power-peak at an an extremly high RPM (10K+)

Read the exhaust tech articles on Paul Yaw's site -especially the first article under pressure wave tuning.

If you look at most IT cars, they use a very long primary system to bring the HP curve into a usable RPM range.
