what do u guys think of this car?

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac...028563034.html

i spoke on the phone with this guy. he kept emphasizing 'its original 19-8-9 rx7 turbo II NOT a swap' blah blah blah. he says he has all the receipts and whatnot so that was assuring but i told him to send me more pictures and he told me to check out the car for myself

the thing is, this car is about 5-6 hours away from me. apparently his first ad was flagged and in the 2nd one he says the paint is 1 month old. i told him i didn't notice it was a color change so I'm not interested anymore (not interested in a color change unless it was done properly). his engine bay is still white, yuck.

he then tells me that the paint is 2 years old. what the hell? it just makes me fishy of what else he is lying about. he says this is the third motor too.

he said his first motor blew so he swapped it out. the 2nd one went and he had it rebuilt but it was done poorly so he had to replace it yet again. the third time was with a JDM motor. he says he HAS to have the receipts and paper for that in order to get the engine through customs. can anyone verify that for me?

he said he put the current motor in at 80k miles in the chassis and the motor had 40-50k. but now in the ad he says it has 65k on the motor??

other than that if the car has no rust it should be good. 150k miles is not too bad even if it had the original motor right? it sure looks clean and it's a series 5...

It looks nice.. Nice color blue. Call and ask some questions like... Why are you selling it? How long have you owned it? Find out if it was ever in an accident. All that kinda stuff. Good luck nice looking car.

yeah, i had already called when i posted this. i called him yesterday.

he says he is selling it so that he can get his newly attained FD running.

he says he has the original window sticker and he is the third owner.

allegedly it is a clean title. If i can clear these qualms and get a bit more serious i will run a carfax check.

francogt1 - thanks, i usually check the west forums too. Another thing that's fishy though: his user name is rotary Dave but the guy i spoke to on the phone is "Elvis" and he told me not to email the email that craigslist has but to another one. That email account is Navarro. Does this guy have 3 names or what?

And now after looking at that thread, maybe this car is an s4 with a full conversion? I have his VIN, how can i verify if it is an s5 vs an s4?

thanks for the advice

you can also just look at if he has the automatic seatbelts. i highly doubt he would go through the trouble of putting the automatic seatbelt rail in a s4 and making its own harness. i mean, there's a bunch of little subtle differences that would be almost impossible to change from a s4 to s5.

in the last picture of his craigslist ad... is that a s4 2 spoke steering wheel i see? I do not see the oem tII lip in the picture, but i do see the sideskirts. (correct me if I'm wrong).

just ask for more pictures of everything to verify the condition, and ask if he has a rx7club account or any account on a forum just so you can check his posts/threads to verify everything on his car is legit. i would be very weary about this seller if he really is telling you multiple things about the car. i'm guessing that because the engine is a jdm engine, he does not exactly know the mileage on the motor. most are estimated at about 50k-60k but who really knows? this may be the reason why he's not sure of the mileage on the motor.... but still, we shall never know

if you want, i'll give him a call and check up on things and post up what he says to see how it compares to your information.
