What do I need to do in order to get 30mpg or better?

Ok, believe it or not, I was getting 30+ MPG on the highway in my 87 SE auto. The car had good compression all around, and ran great. Secondaries were fully functional too. I drove the car pretty hard around town, and it still got at the very least 23mpg. I would say it got more like 26 though. I only spent $20 a week on 87, at an average of $1.89 a gallon. I would put $10 in it on Monday, and get about 120-130 miles out of the 5.2-5.5 gallons I filled her with. I was afraid to run it empty, and the light never came on, so I imagine it could have went futther than that, but I never tried it. I'm not sure if this car was just the exception, or if the transmission and rear end combination are what gave it such good mileage. All the sensors and belts and everything were new. So I dont know, thats just my experience. Now, on the other hand, my TII gets about 230-250 a tank if I'm not too boost crazy....

Buy a 1990 civic Lx automatic 4 door. End of Story.....

Wow! Those are some CRAZY numbers, what did you do to your car? I'll have issues beliving you if you're saying it's 100% stock tho, thats just a fluke

Maybe it was downhill both ways?

Was this to me? The SE was 100% stock, just gutted cats. I drove it rather agressively, and it still got exceptional gas mileage. The TII is not stock. All emissions are removed, has a 2.5" full exhaust, new atkins rebuild, intake, and a FCD. As long as you drive the car mildly, it gets pretty good mileage. I can get at least 200-210 miles out of a tank at $2.09-2.19 a gallon for 93 while boositng the car a few times a day. As far as secrets, I don't know what the deal was with the SE. It had good compression, but apparently had a leak in the gas tank above half a tank. So, maybe that gave it the mileage? LOL...I don't really know though.
