What do i need to beat a GSR?
ok guys, i just bought a 91 gtu, What type of mods do i need to beat a gsr w/intake, cat-back?
also, can i beat a civic ex with headers, intake, custom exhaust?
with me stock?

no $ = strip car until bare metal, with 1/8 tank of gas and you being 140lbs. Punched cats and muffler hollow.
$ = get pipe to replace cats
$$ = get header + mid pipe/used drag radials for better launch
$$$ = get header + presilencer + cone intake
$$$$ = get front section of exhaust + cat back
$$$$$ = get true dual exhaust

The GS-R, you would need equal mods to stay with/beat it, unless the guy cant drive, the civic ex you should have no problem with stock, if your ports and VDI is working correctly.
exhaust, either go with a Mazdatrix true dual if you want to shell out 1400 bucks, or you can go ahead and build a custom one yourself.

Hey man whats up? I have a 88T2 that smokes the hell out of intega's but b4 I got it I had an 89 celica gts that would beat gsr's. The most important things you'll need is intake,exhaust(get rid of the cats [if you don't have to pass emissions],and headers. Make sure your compression is good to. You should be able to hang if not take him in a well running 7. Front whheel drives are hard to launch unless your a really good driver...(which he probably isn't) As for the civic you should be able to take him stock if your motors running well. Good luck

A GSR with Catback and Intake most likely has got another 15hp added to it, resulting in 185hp. I've raced tons of them around here, drags, highway, you name it. Its not that slow, its possible if the guy is a good driver, that its a low 15s car...so try to aim for low 15s or lower with your ride if you want any chance to beat it!

yea, IF he is a good driver he call pull off low 15's, not being a smart ***, but MOST honda/acura guys dont know how to launch there car, ive seen it around here, ive taught a few of them how to launch better, but they dont listen, they think spinning their tires is better then a slightly squealing start with more traction, but oh well

To try to help answer the thread starters question, I think you should get a pair of NITTO drag radials. You'd have a hard time spinning the tires.

my neighbor has a nice 95 GSR...intake, catback
i've never raced him but he took me for a spin in it one time. i was un impressed. i thought it was gonna be a lot faster that it was. i would say its only barely faster than my n/a. if i took out a little weight i'm sure i'd stay dead even with him.
i've also raced a random GSR on the street. i know he had at least catback, and intake (AEM stickers), and possible headers. it was pretty loud. we both rolled out of a stop light and then looked at each other and gunned it. by 70 he had about a fender length on me...

Stock for a stock a 89-91 will probably barely lose to a GS-R with equal drivers. They have 10 more HP(170 vs 160) and better low-end torque. Plus their tranny's have a shorter ratio, and they can shift faster than any 2nd Gen tranny I've tried shifting. My brother used to always just BARELY pull on me in a race to 80 he'd be maybe 2 car lengths ahead, and then I'd slowly pull and we'd be almost even at 100mph. To beat an Integra with Intake and catback, I'd say you would probably need intake, racepipe, catback, and make sure you take as much weight off your car as possible. If you remove your airpump, PS, and AC, then you should have no problems.

An '89 Celica GTS would not beat a GSR. The Toyota is much much heavier (by something like 300 pounds) and has only a ~135 hp engine. A GSR is a 170 hp car at only around 2600 lbs. You do the math...maybe the guy you raced sucked.

Thanks guys that helped alot, i will be custom building a exhaust, buying some headers,and buying a intake within the next couple of weeks...
Hey i know it's off the subject, but i cranked up my 1st gen 85 gs, a sec. ago, and the rpms just go straight up, till i have to turn her off, i looked under the hood, and i dont see the throtte cable stuck, whats the prob? its been about 2 months since i ran her. and it's a 12a, please help

Check out my mods in my sig... All that, and I still loose by a car length in a race from a stop to 120. This was to a 94 GS-R with only a cold air intake. And BTW, for those who have never driven an Integra... If you've ever felt how well it shifts, you'd no longer be making fun of the "I shift mad qwik yo!" line we all make fun of..

Hey... Thier not slow. Might even take u on surprise. When I was stock a LS beat me by a car through third. He had bolt ons. A GSR with bolt ons will spank U unless u have heavier mods than that...just my educated guess.

Not to bust on anybody...but the GSR? I hope your referring to 96 and newer..the 93 and older GSR are mad slow! I am buddy's w/ a guy who has a '93 GSR w/ intake, exhaust, and cams...my 88 back when it was NA w/ straightpipe, bad throwout bearing, and intake, I beat him by a car's length from 0 to 85. He did however get a new shortshifter that I was playing with, and yes..those cars do have "mad shifting yo"

I think you just need some light footwork. THE INTEGRA IS SLOW COMPARED TO A SEVEN. BUt you could buy a header so the integras intake doesnt over take the sound of your car. THATS all you need, cuz my red 86 SE dusted a lot of GSR's in its time

Don't underestimate the power of vtec. My Turbo II that ran low 14s beat a integra GSR with just I/H/E by only one car length. Depending on the driver, the GSRs could go deep into 14s.
