ok so here is the deal. i am in first year engineering and this quarter i am taking a CNC class. we must make 2 things (1 on the lathe and one on the mill) and we also get a 2 hour block reserved in the shop each week to do hw/ use the machines for whatever.

A kick-*** peritrochoidial (Rotor shaped?) shifter **** that tapers in size from bottom (small) to top (large), and make it out of stainless! On second thought, that would be VERY hard from a machinist stand point. But you're an engineer, so get to work!

Edit: An aluminum throttle body intake elbow? That might require some TIG welding though.

Unless you have something particular in mind, try something artsy and not so functional like a rotor screw on cap. You can use a tap and die set to thread it if they have one large enough. Otherwise... nevermind.

The thing is most other objects are tubes or stamped sheet metal. I can't think of anything that's solid metal that would benefit from being aluminum. Unless you can do something huge like a suspension arm and have the $$$ for the giant block of aluminum. And I'm not sure the bigger non-tube arms aren't already aluminum.

hmm the shift *** is a good idea but... i dont really want a rotor shaped *** hahaha. a throttle body maybe like the ones rotary works is making would be cool but i have no idea how to effectively make one cause i haven't done fluid dynamics yet how hard do you think it would be to do something like a steering rack atomic rex style?

aluminum motor mounts, pulleys, wheel spacers, tb spacers, cooling panel for the hood latch area, block off plates.
alot of these things are very marketable in the classifieds too so if you could ask your instructor if you could do more than one you could make some bank too.
