What to do? Exhaust too loud?(long)

Well I bolted up the Bonez mid pipe today which replaces the cats with a straight pipe and a "presilencer". It bolts between the exhaust manifold and the cat back. I have an 87 NA with no acv, airpump and 6 ports open with CS cat back. With just the cat back the car wasnt too loud, in fact, I thought it could use a couple more db's. With the bonez mid pipe though the cars really loud now, like a lot more then I expected.

Im a little unsure as to what I should do now. I tend to do most of my "recreational" driving at night and I know i can just count the days till one of the neighbors complain and with good reason too. Or I know I could easily be pulled over for the sound if im not careful. The only other bolt on I plan to add is intake and I know this is gonna increase the sound even more.

This is my daily driven car and its not like im afraid of losing certain creature comforts or putting up with extra noise, ive removed the backseats, it doesnt have ps, pw, pl and i dont really ever use the AC.I dont mind hearing brake squeal from aggressive pads but the sound from the exhaust is pretty loud. The power gains seem "ok".

What do you guys think I should do? I only drove the car for about 10mins. I could always get a silencer for the exhaust and pop it off for hard driving. Or I could try and sell this mid pipe and go with some other kinda set up? Im not too sure...... Id really appreciate some feedback, esp. owners who had problems like this when modding their exhaust.. Thanks in advance.

just get the silencer.......there isn't much other route to take to replace that except maybe a highflow cat.....but thats pretty pricey too. i say keep it and get the silencer, or take your chances with the neighbors (thats what i'm bout to be doing. gonna go 3" all the way back from the turbo with n1 mufflers ) well good luck with your decision

Hey, my car is pretty loud when you step on it. Race pipe with a presilencer, and straight pipe to two nice mufflers i dont know what they are called, with 2 resonators....Buy a stainless steel muffler, and get it welded in place. It shouldn't make to much of a stall in the exhaust gases, just quiet the car...just a small one perhaps? But, if that does not suit your taste, find two different mufflers. But the race pipe is excellent. I hope this has helped a little bit.

BTW, my friend with an 88 celica, has a big huge exhaust and when he puts the silencer in, it shudders me because its such a nasty sound. Just my .02 on silencers..

the car isnt TOO loud in low rpms with low throttle, is it? so just drive away from your neighborhood and then... ;-).

Or, i say sell the midpipe... because its all about the sound

Yea even at low RPMs its pretty deep so you can definetly hear it. Im not sure, if I sell the midpipe id have to put my stock set up on again and the only alternative would be to get something similar next time but with a cat. Well im gonna be going to school in about an hour so I'll see how it is again. I dont know, sucks to be in this situation with no job.....

I think i might have an exhaust leak. Hopefully after that gets fixed it'll drop the db's a little. If not im just gonna sell the midpipe and use my stock set up.

I bet the race pipe is excellent....seeing as you never payed the guy you bought it from. That probably the best bang for the buck part you will ever buy.

exhaust leaks

probably exhaust leaks, pay a muffler guy to tighten all your nuts....There are a ton of places...I thought my car was quiet when I first purchased it, I took it too the muffler man for some other work (heat shield) rattle, but he tightened all my bolts done, I started the car and I was like WTF, I can't even hear the damn thing ....
