WHat are the dimensions of the stock intercooler?

Yup-
What are the dimensions of the core?
Just comparing- so I know what to buy "bigger than"!
Oh- it's going front mount


What about-
Volvo- HUGE 28 1/2 inches w and housings- will it fit?
Ford t bird super coupe??
Saab 9000 turbo- There seems to be two different sizes- Small, and huge!?
Eclipse?
Conquest TSI?

What's the widest that will fit??
This frekin saab 9000 I'm looking at has a core that 34" wide!!

What's the max that'll fit up there?

Measured mine off the car but still in the housing, its 12" wide, 9" tall, and it couldn't be more than 2.5" deep. But I can't be positive on the depth cause its still in the housing.

BamBam7, the majority of the cores listed are pretty wide and tall, but are they thick? the thicker the better for an intercooler. just bcause its wide and tall does not mean it will cool efficiently. go to CYMFC3S' website and check out his greddy front mount. yes it is friggin huge but notice its also incredibly thick too. that makes the core more efficient. make sure whatever core you get is pretty thick.

Anyone have an opinion about the ones off turbo Talons?
They look like a square box they are so thick- but I know they are definately no bigger than the stock IC.

Would an IC with a slightly small core size (area) but an inch thicker give a better temp drop?

I'm looking at one that's 8.5" x 7" x 4". Thats pretty thick- but a lot smaller area than the stock IC..

I'd have to disagree with this statement...
Due to physics (and a little common sense), the front face of the IC core does most of the cooling.&nbsp As the airflow passes through the core, the ambient airflow temp starts to rise due to already passing through through the front part of the IC core - by the time it hits the back of the IC core, it does very little cooling.&nbsp Beware of suppliers who claim thicker is better - I'd take the biggest core I could fit and run it as thin as possible (without choking the turbo) - this would be the most efficient design.

i agree with ted on that one. its more important to get one with big runners, the bigger the runners the less restriction it is going to cause on the air flow. i have a FMIC which the core is 16" x 12" x 2" and the runners are nearly twice the thickness of other intercoolers i have seen.

and the core on the factory intercooler is only 12" x 6"

Jeez Ted, you beat me to the punch. Frontal area is more important. Thats where the coolest air meets the warm intercooler first. If you get an i/c that is as large of a frontal area that you can fit in your car, then go for thicker if the floats your boat. More than 2" thick might be too much for most applications. Right now I have the stock i/c, but after my BNR prepped Stage2 tubo goes in, a NPR will follow. Look out local autoX tracks, here come the crazy guy with a really, REALLY loud car.
