If the intercooler says, "Rotary Turbo with intercooler" then it's a J-Spec. The USDM ones say, "Turbo II 13b Intercooler" or something like that.

I hear (but can't confirm) that the j-spec engines do not have EGR provisions. Kinda hard to see with the intake manifolds on, but if you see an EGR valve, it's definitely not j-spec.. If you don't, look closer for a blockoff plate...

Hey, I did post it in the "Cone Intake on an N/A" thread :

I found this advertisement for the FC looking through Japanese websites on Yahoo Japan. It's pretty blurry, but it's Japanese text anyway.

I rearranged it and added my car for my sig.

Cool

don't matter if it's jspec or not... just check for a real good compression... i've gone through 5 jspec motors myself... you're gonna end up having to reuse your manifolds and stuff... n e ways good luck and have fun...

see ya,

Thanks a lot everyone. This is my first car and i got it about 3 months ago and fell in love with rotary. Then i messed my n/a engine somehow (probably cuz i drove 130mph every night on the freeway from work XÞ....) It started to smoke a lot, so i decided i need a new engine so i went to corksport and order one 89-91 turbo, but then my car is a 86 gxl n/a 2+2. So basically i think i am in over my head on trying to pull this off. I know this is off the subject, but can someone give tell me what i need to do?

Thanks again

vicious:

glad that u fell in love with rotary

my advice: sell ur 86NA, and just get a blown engine turbo 2
if ur current car in ok shape...maybe u can sell it for 1500, and then get a blown T2 (about $1500)
and then do the conversion, save u time, $ and parts..

there involves alot to do a NA to T2 conversion...

there is a whole lot to do to convert a NA to a T2. Im seriously thinking about finding a T2 that has a straight body and then making a monster out of it, now that I have a T2 engine and tranny in the garage. And keeping my NA for a daily driver. Also bump the NA up to around 200hp

I guess you'll need some aftermarket CPU, like a halltech, Wolf 3d, etc...in order to use/tune the 13Bt properly. If your serious about power, reliability, this is the way to go. You bought the engine already, so it would be wise to replace the tranny, starter, driveshaft with a T2 one...add a diff if yours is not a LSD.

It will probably cost you less than a used/blown T2....and you'll have a VERY fast, reliable car.

Again thanks for the advice. Last night i saw a post about how to convert n/a to a t2 the least expensive way. he said that all you needed to do if you wanted to keep your original tranny is to just swap the n/a flywheel and counter weight with the t2 counter parts. I thought about selling my 86 n/a, but i really like my n/a everyone compliments on it looks. When i got it from a close friend of the family it had already gotten a new paint job and aftermarket rims plus some nitto tires. The interior is in very good condition compare to what i seen on other 86. Plus it has this lil fancy gismo "auto adjusting suspension" button thingy. Pretty much the girl who sold me the car keep it in very good condition and said it's the top model withall the good options on it. So switching to a t2 that doesn't have a 2+2 kinda discourage me. I really want to have 2 extra seats eventhought it's useless?!?! ^____^ But your suggestion are welcome on which direction i should head?

Thanks again

I suggest you buy a Turbo II. If you want the back seats, then find some and put them in the T2. I found a 2+2 in the junkyard and took the backseat and put it in mine. Once you remove the bins, you'll find the mounting holes for the seats and seat belts are already there. It took me less than an hour to do it.

The car does have LSD. About getting a aftermarket CPU i'm not familiar with anything like that. All i know is that i just need a 89-91 tII ECU (as u can see im a newbie =) Haltech, wolf 3d are those Stand alone units that doesn't need to be hook up to the ECU? Can you explain a lil more on that ECU part?...When getting those computer is it automatically programmed for your engine or do i have to bring it to some shop to get it programmed?

Ask Dave Gibson at FC3S.org about the swap. He did it on his 86. He suggests you get all the parts first and he has a whole long list. Make sure you get in touch with him because he is the expert on that subject. Probably will tell you to go with the rest of the advice and buy a blown TII to restore and put in the bucket seats.

Good luck finding one...they're about as rare as hen's teeth and I own one. If you look long and hard for one you'll find one in your area, but they command a higher price than an 87-88 TII.

In the last 2 months, I bought an 88 TII and an 89 TII. 88 was $500 and 89 was $600. One has good motor and clean interior, one has bad motor and good body.

Now I'll give you a chance to guess what I am going to do....
...
..
.

Did you figure it out? Not yet? take another second...
..
.

YES!!! I will combine them to make a working AND clean car.

see ya!
