what colour will be easier to paint my FC?

Alright guys, here's a good debate question for you all.

Currently,my FC is gold with a red interior. The hood is chipped and peeling, there are numerous dents and dings all over the body and I'd like to paint the car another colour, since I am not really fond of the gold.

I am planning on painting the car myself. Now before you go and say 'no,don't do that,it'll look like crap', keep in mind I don't really care because I am going for all go and no show.

Now,my 3 colour choices to spraypaint my car with are:

1. white w/clearcoat
2. high gloss black w/clearcoat
3. flat black w/clearcoat.

But really,I am more in a toss up to go between white or black. I like black because it means stealth and I'd do a complete blackout look with the car. Black paint, tinted windows, blacked out lights ad gunmetal rims. But then, white looks so crisp, clean and uncluttered.

I also have a set of gold wire DynaLite rims that would look awesome on the car whether painted black or white, and a set of silver ROH rims which I can paint to any colour I wish because it's just a painted finish, and I nly paid $300 for the set.

Anyways,black or white,I can't decide!!

Black is usually regarded as the hardest to screw up.... But you're using spray paint, so I don't think it's gonna matter what color you pick.

Black is the hardest color to paint correctly. All imperfections in the body will be evident if you will be painting your car black, especially a high gloss black. Paint the car white for the least amount of hassle.

If you're going to be painting the car yourself, try to at least take the time to properly prep the car. If prepped correctly, even rattle can jobs can come out looking pretty nice.

Regardless of how it turns out, it's still only gonna last a year before it all starts coming off.

they have this flat black paint that simulates chalkboard texture...if you use that, then you can get chalk and write all over your car. washes off with water too!

Artcar 7?

Somehow the thought of an artcar 7 is painful. I mean, I love art cars, and might make my Civic into one some day, but what a waste of a 7.

Give the guy a break a bit, wouldya? Just for the record, I do think you should go for a pro job, even if it's an el-cheapo pro job, but you're welcome to do whatever you'd like and I won't razz you. Too much, at least.

i painted my car w/ a spray can, flat black.

it's the easiest thing in the world.

came up to total of $45 CND for a colour change paint job. believe me, it looks better now than when i first got it.

go flat black. it's easy.
my 7 is a track car so i don't care about its looks!

If you do some decent sanding and buffing before clearcoating and then wetsand the clear it can look like a projob. Just pay attention to getting it even, hard to do with rattle cans. will not have the life of real paint job though

I did a car with cans one and it was actually not that bad. I took my time and it came out like a el cheapo single stage enamel paint job that you might get at Earl Shibe or Fact-o-bake. Not bad for my $13, I used the cheapest can paint that home depot had. But it was a car that I did'nt care about and it was a puke green Escort with unsanded bondo on it when I got it. After the paint job it was gloss (low gloss) black with flat black bumpers.

BTW, If you ever bring it to a real shop to get it painted they will charge you a lot extra to sand all of that can paint off.

They had a whole article on how they painted (rattle-can) their 240SX (silvia conversion) project car flat black. It came out looking very good. Just do yourself a favor, sand the exisiting paint flat and smooth, and scuff ALL of it. Then just leave it the flat black... forget the clearcoat... clearcoat is nigh impossible to put on with rattle can. 'sides, just flat black is really easy to touch up if someone dings/scratches the car.

my $45, 2-hour paint job.

best thing about it is that whenever i work on my car, i don't have to worry that i'll scratch it. cuz if i did, i'll just spray over it.

I find it cool to have a car painted for strictly business appearance. I'd rather have mine primered than sitting without driving it for months waiting for the funds to paint it.

on the subject of painting.... has anyone had the high end macco paint job? From what I've heard they have 3 levels, crappy, less crappy, and not bad. I think the not bad one is like 900 dollars. Just wanted to get some opinions on that before I go for it.

It can come down to how well the car was prepped prior to being sprayed. Prep is almost more important than the spraying process. I have seen paint jobs where the owers prepped the car themselves then had the car Macco sprayed for $3-400 and the car turns out great. For an all out show car you are going to be disapointed, but for paint on a budget it is the way to go if you are willing to do the prep work yourself. Otherwise the Macco guys will half-*** prep it and spray it. Good prep just takes time and attention to detail.

On the subject of spray painting the car.... Its your car, do what you want... Personally I wouldn't do it, but ive seen people spraypaint their cars and it comes out fine for their liking, its a preference thing. Just like the rest of this world.. Its how you want it, not how others do.

Just please don't do what this kid did.. spraypainted the car white, then the hood dark grey and called it carbon fiber.............it was horrable...

Now off topic:

That not bad job done to my Mitsubishi Starion, I plan on having my 7 once im done fixing some other things. It has been on there for 3 years now and still looks nice... I think I may get my 7 put in this color too..

More pictures of the paint/car can be seen at: http://home.comcast.net/~sirelfking/

This paint job looks MUCH better than my $1100 paint job at miracle auto body. I will never take a car there again... I have the previous color chipping up all over the place... And the paint has been on there for 1year and 4 or 5 months now....
