What The Clutch!?!?! Help!

so I get the car back from the shop from getting a new clutch. and I'm driving it home and I realize the speedo is at 0. crap... then all the sudden... it starts beeping at me! what!?!?!? they did check the power steering to see what was wrong with it. and I can't check my warning lights because they've never worked since I had the car. So what do I do about the beeping? its kind of a ... beep.......beep........beep... consistant with a iunno 1 second pause. AND THEY GOT BLACK STUFF ON MY FLOOR MAT!

Okay, if that shop can't figure out how to plug the damn speedo cable in they're ******* idiots. I'd suggest getting under the car to make sure it's actually plugged in. If it's just hanging there then there's a big *** hole in the side of your tranny for fluid to fly out of.

I'm not sure about your steering, does the wheel still feel boosted?

it felt a little, but not much. They said the seels on my rack and pinion are bad and its leaking profusely out of there. if they didn't plug the speedo cable back in, and its leaking tanny fluid... that might be a reason that its beeping... maybe... if it isn't what do you think?

Could be the ECU not seeing a vehicle speed input, thus causing the beeping.

ahhh...

while I'm at it, does anyone have a link to a 'how-to' about how to fix the warning lights? I think mine are out because of the solder points like most all of them. I'd like to fix it. I think they had it on teamfc3s.net or .org or whatever it is.

its back in the shop.

I hate it when they ask "are you absolutely sure it was working before?"

"did you take it to anyone else before us?"

ehh... I hope they don't mess anything else up.

I'm going to go with that theory. I don't see how the ECU would have much to do with the clutch job, considering the speedo cable is right off the tranny

got it back today. speedo does work now. the clutch feels different. i haven't been pushing it at all so I don't know how much better, but from normal driving it feels grippier we'll see.

I'm tempted to drive to bakersfield and back just to get the wear in period over.

Is that a highway drive? The idea is not to simply put miles on the car, but to actually break in the clutch assembly. Meaning being easy on the car while engaging/disengaging the clutch to make sure everything sets properly, and you don't get premature wear on the pressure plate and clutch disk.

This is just gossip. I do not have power steering on any of my cars, but.....I remember reading a post on this site that said if the speedometer cable was broken you would get that beep, beep. It seems the power steering box(electrical box) depends on an input for speed. Seems the power steering has a different power output for different or at least higher speeds. That what I got out of that post. No cable equals beep, beep, beep, beep etc. Glad you got it fixed.

I don't have P/S either, But...

Isn't it "speed sensitive" power steering, meaning like any speeds under SAY 30 and it will power for you, but after that there isn't much need for it, therefore perhaps the ECU does need speedometer input to run the P/S , Or I could be a moron and you all just became a little more stupid by reading this =)

Oh yeah? what if I drive to bakersfield on the back roads? that'll take a while...

The beeping is gone so it was the speedo cable. Shop manager before speedo cable was fixed asked all these questions about if it was broken before and if I took it anywhere else first. He said it was broken when they took it apart. Other guy said it wasn't there. Other guy said something like "mystery how that speedo cable fell out and dissapeared" heh... shop incompetance. I just hope I don't find out they got curious and took the engine apart to see what it looked like. ehh...

HAHAHA. I have power steering and I don't even know. sad isn't it? well it hasn't been working since I got it. owner said it was a tube. shop looked at it and said it was the rack and pinion. big difference there... seeing that rack and pinion is more work. but this I'm pretty sure is something I can do myself. Clutch is too hard with my work area, but rack and pinion SHOULD be doable. The shop said it was seals, but implyed that stuff would be needed to be replaced. well... I don't know. Oh yeah, about the p/s turning off and stuff, what I read was that it was something like variable load power steering. It would start full on, but after like 10 mph it would gradually lighten up until it would let off at like 35. something like that. once I fix it I'll know for sure, I guess. My dad was saying 'you should get that power steering fixed. it'll help reaction in an accident' sure... I told him if he wanted me to have it then HE should fix it with his own money since at the time I didn't care. that was over a year ago and still no power!
