what brand of clutch kit to buy?

Well since my clutch is going bad i need a new one. What are some good brands? I've looked at racing beat and act so far. I hear centerforce is good, where is a good place to buy one? I'm looking for something that will handle around 230 hp.

I've heard good things about ACT they have a power rating system for their clutch/PP combo's. Check them out at rx7store....

I'll be brave and ask...Anybody try the 6-puck clutches that are selling on ebay for $190.00 for sprung disk/Pres. plate? They look almost tempting...cheers

i got a centerforce dual friction for 220 on nopi e-cat , u need to get the throwout bearing seperately, suppose to handle 90% more torque than stock i heard its really good, i havent tried it yet still waiting on my engine rebuild to get back

so far i've been happy with my centerforce dual friction clutch. haven't tried any others as of yet.

I picked up one for my na...XTD sprung 6 puck no problems so far quick solid engaugment.. slightly stiffer petel... all hardware included... fast shippment... happy so far....

I have not had good luck with Centerforce clutches. I installed one in my 10th Ann years ago and experienced massive engine vibrations. I called the company thinking the weights on the pressure plate fingers had not centered correctly around the trans input shaft. The tech told me they were self centering, and that was not the root of the problem. He went on to mention that Centerforce balanced their pressure plates statically, which was introducing are higher than acceptable error rate into the product line.

Like I said, this happened to me 5-6 years ago, and Centerforce probably has upgraded their manufacturing techniques by now.

Regardless, I have a Bonez Street Strip setup from rx7.com now, and I love it. The pedal is nice and firm (not firm though), and the clutch does not slip. I have somewhere around 250-275 hp.

my friend's running an ACT clutch and a lightened flywheel from Racing Beat. Freakin great combo for a street car if you ask me.

I also have a XTD stage 3, 6 puck clutch on my streeported N/A. It hooks up just fine. I can't see having only 230hp being any problem at all.

Clutches are rated by torque, not hp.

The various ACT clutch configurations are probably the best for the majority of the people on this forum. They offer good performance at a good price, and they have a good bling factor because ACT advertises so much in drag racing and ricer magazines. Your car will go much faster with an ACT sticker than it will with an Ebay sticker.

Ogura clutches are priced about the same as any other clutch of the same type. If you saw an Ogura clutch and got sticker shock, it was probably a racing 2-disk clutch pack, which is going to seem expensive if you only compare it to single-disk street clutches. Also, some Ogura clutches are made by Exedy.

i've got vibrations too, but i figured out that it's due to dead tranny mounts. my first thought was to those self centering weights though. i should know for sure this weekend. new mazda comp mounts are in the mail coming to me.

I am curious, why do you say this? I have heard it before, but I don't understand why they would be any harder to install than a different clutch.

Running an ACT SS/HD with an ACT chromoly flywheel- definately rocks over the stock stuff it replaced, and extremely driveable. I really like the beefier pedal feel, and she spools up a little quicker now.

I am not sure what the problem is, but it could have something to do with the CFDF design. The clutch uses a unique system of centrifugal weights, which may confuse people. Or, it may be that people ignore the 500-mi break-in period. I don't know.

Of all the people I know who installed this clutch in their cars, not one of them has had any problem at all. Zero, nada, none. The CFDF clutch in my TII worked great for the previous owner who drag raced, it worked great for me, and continued to work great for the next owner of the car for several years up to the point when the car was finally wrecked. The horror stories associated with this clutch are limited to this forum.

yeah, i've never installed a clutch before the one i currently have. did the install on a weekend with a racing beat aluminum flywheel and centerforce dual friction clutch. went easy on it at first and so far its great. as for the clutch itself there really isn't anything on it to "install" incorrectly. i was expecting there to be some intricate voodoo dance/ritual required after hearing everyone say that they can be installed incorrectly and prematurely fail. i do however want to go back and grease the little weighted bracelet thingy. i wonder if i can reach that through the starter hole so i don't have to drop the tranny to do it.
