exactly what the title says. And can you blow out your stock one and cause an idle problem?

I don't understand the question. You should never get rid of the BOV on a turbocharged car. Do you mean the stock BOV? Above 18psi i would ditch the stocker(s). I don't think a bad BOV could cause a bad idle, but it will hurt your turbo(s).

well the stock BOV does leak at idle, and if you are venting it to atmosphere it will affect idle, but only if you are using the stock unit.

so the stock recirc on an s4 tII will last to ~18psi? Can they break and cause a vacuum leak at all?

They're all metal. You'll most likely split a hose before you break the valve itself.
