That's because they're tuned for a stock-port engine. Street-ported engines, such as mine, benefit from the scavenging effect of a collector much more, due to an increased duration.

That is why I admitted the fact that the single exhaust will give you a better peak HP. Although If you look at the pic above you clearly see an increase of HP throughout the entire RPM range.

like I said; you'll gain power all over, just from the lack of catalytic convertors.

Since you have a stock engine I would suggest the Dual exhaust from mazdattrix.com It is kinda expensive but I was able to install the whole thing in about 5 1/2 hours alone with only a jack, two jack stands, and some basic tools. The hardest part was getting the old stuff off. I have not had that many races after installing my exhaust I think it is because people are a little affraid of my car and the way it sounds.
The only guy that had the ***** to really want to race me was this dude in an 98 GT mustang. I could teel he would still beat me but we did not race since he was with his girl and there was too much traffic. I would have loved to see how I would stand up against the great GT. haha

1987RX7Guy- Youve only driven with true duals so you have nothing to compare it too. And Duals are definately not the best bang for your buck mod. For $1200 they arent cheap. For that much I could get you into the low 15s/ high 14s. You could get a Racing beat header, presilencer if you want a decently quite car, and have muffler shop make you a larger diameter exhaust for much cheaper than duals, and will give just as much power.

Porting your manifold is cheap if you are handy with tools. Removing your emissions systems if you dont have to pass emission inspections is cheap and drops some unneeded weight. Streetporting is the best bang for the buck mod you can make but requires disassembly of the motor to do.

RX7Blazin- If I were you Id get a Racing beat header/presilencer and get some custom piping to mate to your cat-back exhaust system. check the link at the top of the page for parts.

Well I did state that I could only speak for them but I know that you can get better HP numbers with a single. I am stating what I know to be fact and what is know by most on this forum. I agree that porting is a better HP gain but I have not done it yet but I am in the planning stage of porting my spare engine if it is in good condition.

I agree with him I just would suggest the DUALS because I know how much they helped the power in my car but I had the extra money. You might not the RB header and two presilencers can be bought and then you just fab up the rest. It will be alot cheaper. like 4-600 dollars.

Its a muffler, not very restrictive, but can quite your car down alot and give it a deeper sound.

let's not forget the noise level...if you don't want to feel like you're riding a motorcycle (or worried about a noise ticket), maybe straight pipes and headers aren't for you

Yay an arguement about exhaust. ANyways, back to other mods for bang for your buck.

I have a 6 port 13b n/a, and have:

*Racing beat Dual long primary exhaust (w/ 6th port actuators)
*Bonez cone filter & AFM adapter
*Jacobs electronics wires
*removed AC (BIIIIIIG dif. i think the idle clutch was broken)
*removed PS (looped the box's line)

soon to remove the air pump, if i can figure out how to propperly block off the ACV (what do you do about the back part, that attaches to the 6th port actuator tube?)

the engine is in an FB gsl-se, which was stock 135 hp. i've heard putting a s5 intake on really helps, but i dont know if its just the upper, the upper/lower, the upper/lower/ecu... or what. any ideas?

Hey 1987RX7guy, did Mtrix hire you to push the duals? j/k.
But seriously, if you are going to get a new exhaust, I would suggest getting a RB header collect it to 2.5in piping with a stainless cat (if you need to pass emissions don't get one if you don't live in a emmision controlled area), then cap off with 2 stainless steel mufflers (use to inline to keep the sound under control). Have a exhaust shop do the piping for around $200. This will be a lighter and cheaper, plus it will be better with a street port (which you will probably do down the road).
And like somone said having a free flowing exhaust might not open the aux port on a s4, just put in a rpm switch that will controll a solenoide connected to the airpump for auz port activation. Just search for airpump and aux and port.

Honestly, any power you gain from a true dual setup over a large single is countered by the extra weight.

Well I think that we should do a test of this. All we need is to have a car, dyno, a scale to weight the car on and two exhausts on hand. We weight the car with both exhausts then dyno the car with both. the all we need to do is calculate the power to weight ratio with the numbers. That will give you the answer on what typ of exhuast is better.

I personaly would never put a single exhaust on my FC because it does not look right IMO I think it is like missing a nut. The Duals give you good smooth and increasing power an not just at high RPMs.

I did not nor have I ever recieved money or any other payment for my good review of my exhaust.
I agree that for the same money you could do other things and make a faster car but I bought this exhaust for a verry good reason. That is I had money, will to spend it, and need to improve performance. I searched for the best and decided that this was it. specially since no other vendor had a dyno sheet proving what they say. Other exhaust sistems claim 6hp gains which are pathetic and I would still have spent a lot of cash. The set-up that I was looking for before would have cost me like 1k dollars anyways so I said **** it and bought this.

I feel that way too. Which is why when I get mine Im bridging the spare exhaust cut out in the bumper so it doesnt look so lonely
